Two Complete Science-Adventure Books
''Two Complete Science-Adventure Books'' was an American pulp science fiction magazine, published by Fiction House, which lasted for eleven issues between 1950 and 1954 as a companion to ''Planet Stories''. Each issue carried two novels or long novellas. It was initially intended to carry only reprints, but soon began to publish original stories. Contributors included Isaac Asimov, Robert A. Heinlein, Arthur C. Clarke, Poul Anderson, John Brunner, and James Blish. The magazine folded in 1954, almost at the end of the pulp era. Publication history The early 1950s saw dramatic changes in the history of U.S. science fiction publishing. At the start of 1949, all but one of the major magazines in the field were in pulp format; by the end of 1955, almost all had either ceased publication or switched to digest format. ''Pebble in the Sky'' is a science fiction novel by American writer Isaac Asimov, published in 1950. This work is his first novel — parts of the ''Foundation'' series had appeared from 1942 onwards in magazines, but '' Foundation'' was not published in book form until 1951. The original ''Foundation'' books are also a string of linked episodes, whereas this is a complete story involving a single group of characters. Publication history ''Pebble in the Sky'' was originally written in the summer of 1947 under the title "Grow Old with Me" for ''Startling Stories'', whose editor Sam Merwin, Jr. had approached Asimov to write a forty thousand word short novel for the magazine. The title was an adaption of Robert Browning's '' Rabbi ben Ezra'', the first few lines of which (starting "Grow old along with me! / The best is yet to be...") were included in the final novel. Galaxy Science Fiction Novels
''Galaxy novels'', sometimes titled ''Galaxy Science Fiction Novels'', were a series of mostly reprint American science fiction novels published between 1950 and 1961. The series was started by H.L. Gold, the editor of ''Galaxy Science Fiction'', in 1950 as a companion to the main ''Galaxy'' magazine. There was one (often abridged) novel per issue, which appeared in digest size format, which made the books in the series look like digest magazines. In 1959, after 35 issues, the series was sold to Beacon Books, which changed the format to mass-market (small size) paperback and introduced its own numbering scheme, continuing the series for another 11 issues. They also had the contents of some books revised to add mild sexual content and changed their titles accordingly.
