Twisleton-Wykeham-Fiennes Baronets
The Twisleton-Wykeham-Fiennes Baronetcy, of Banbury in the County of Oxford, is a title in the Baronetage of the United Kingdom. It was created in the 1916 Birthday Honours for the Liberal politician and decorated military officer the Hon. Eustace Twisleton-Wykeham-Fiennes. Sir Eustace was the second son of John Twisleton-Wykeham-Fiennes, 11th/17th Baron Saye and Sele. He had a long military career and represented Banbury in Parliament (1906–10, 1910–18). At the time of the creation, he was a major in the Oxfordshire Yeomanry serving in the First World War. He was later a lieutenant-colonel and colonial administrator. Sir Eustace's eldest son and heir, Capt. John Eustace Twisleton-Wykeham-Fiennes, died 18 June 1917 of wounds suffered in the Battle of Arras, where he was serving with the Gordon Highlanders. Oxfordshire Yeomanry
The Queen's Own Oxfordshire Hussars (QOOH) was a Yeomanry Cavalry regiment of the British Army's auxiliary forces, formed in 1798. It saw service in the Second Boer War with 40 and 59 Companies of the Imperial Yeomanry and was the first Yeomanry regiment to serve in Belgium and France during the Great War. After almost four years of Trench warfare on the Western Front, where cavalry had been superfluous, the QOOH led the advance during the Allies' victorious Hundred Days Offensive in 1918. Baron Saye and Sele is a title in the Peerage of England held by the Twisleton-Wykeham-Fiennes family. The title dates to 1447 but it was recreated in 1603. Confusion over the details of the 15th-century title has led to conflicting order for titleholders; authorities such as ''Burke's Peerage'' and ''Debrett's Peerage'' do not agree on whether or not the 1447 creation is still extant. The Twisleton-Wykeham-Fiennes family are the descendants of the 16th Baron Saye and Sele who was born Frederick Benjamin Twistleton and adopted the surname Twisleton-Wykeham-Fiennes in 1849 by Act of Parliament. Virginia Frances, Lady Twisleton-Wykeham-Fiennes ( Pepper; 9 July 1947 – 20 February 2004), known as Ginny Fiennes, was an English explorer. She was the first woman to be awarded the Polar Medal, and the first woman to be voted in to join the Antarctic Club in recognition of her research work for the British Antarctic Survey and University of Sheffield into very low frequency radio propagation. The Royal Scots Greys was a Cavalry regiments of the British Army, cavalry regiment of the British Army from 1707 until 1971, when they amalgamated with the 3rd Carabiniers (Prince of Wales's Dragoon Guards) to form the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards.
