Twinlights
''Twinlights'' is a 1995 EP by Scottish alternative rock band Cocteau Twins, released in September 1995 by Fontana Records. It was issued along with the EP '' Otherness'' as a teaser for the album ''Milk & Kisses''. It is a mainly acoustic recording, with AllMusic referring to it as "being as close to an "unplugged" effort as the Twins ever got". The EP was originally released on CD as well as a 2x7" vinyl set. The EP has four tracks, two of which were reimagined for ''Milk and Kisses'' ("Rilkean Heart" and "Half-Gifts"). "Pink Orange Red", which was released on the 1985 EP ''Tiny Dynamine'', is a stripped-down version of the original with a piano playing the melody and opening. "Golden-Vein" is the only track on the EP not to appear on any other release. Otherness (EP)
''Otherness'' is a 1995 EP by Scottish alternative rock band Cocteau Twins, released in October 1995 by Fontana Records. It was issued along with '' Twinlights'' as a teaser for the full-length album '' Milk & Kisses''. It was the group's final EP. Production While it was a companion piece to ''Twinlights'', it was very different in style. ''Otherness'' is a remix EP, the only such record released by the band. The remixer and collaborator was Mark Clifford from the British experimental band Seefeel. All of the EP's tracks were also featured on either previous or future releases. Both "Seekers Who Are Lovers" and "Violaine" appeared on ''Milk and Kisses'' in totally reimagined versions. Cocteau Twins
Cocteau Twins was a Scottish rock band active from 1979 to 1997. They were formed in Grangemouth by Robin Guthrie (guitars, drum machine) and Will Heggie (bass), adding Elizabeth Fraser (vocals) in 1981 and replacing Heggie with multi-instrumentalist Simon Raymonde in 1983. The group earned critical praise for their ethereal, effects-laden sound and the soprano vocals of Fraser, whose lyrics often eschew any recognisable language. They pioneered the 1980s alternative subgenre of dream pop. After signing with the British record label 4AD in 1982, they released their debut album '' Garlands'' later that year. ''Tiny Dynamine'' is an EP by Scottish alternative rock band Cocteau Twins, released on 4AD Records. The EP featured four non-album tracks. It was issued on 15 November 1985, two weeks prior to another EP, ''Echoes in a Shallow Bay''. The two EP sets, which featured complementary artwork, were also released as a combined double EP in a gatefold cover and as an eight-track CD. The EP was later included in its entirety on the 1991 compilation '' The Box Set'' and the 2005 singles/EP collection ''Lullabies to Violaine''. Snow (EP)
''Snow'' is a 1993 EP by Scottish band Cocteau Twins, released in December 1993 on Fontana Records. It contains cover versions of the Christmas standards "Frosty the Snowman" and "Winter Wonderland". It is out of print, though its tracks appear on the compilation ''Lullabies to Violaine''. Background ''Snow'' was released in extremely limited quantities; one expert suggested that fewer than 5,000 copies were made. One of the songs on the album, "Frosty the Snowman," was recorded more than a year before ''Snows release, for an album to accompany a year-end issue of ''Volume''. Robin Guthrie was reluctant to record Christmas songs, so the group opted to record non-specific winter songs instead. Fontana Records is a record label that was started in the 1950s as a subsidiary of the Dutch Philips Records. The independent label distributor Fontana Distribution takes its name from the label. History Fontana started in the 1950s as a subsidiary of the Dutch Philips Records; when Philips restructured its music operations, it dropped Fontana in favor of Vertigo Records. Fontana's U.S. counterpart label was started in 1964 and distributed by Philips US subsidiary Mercury Records. Milk & Kisses
''Milk & Kisses'' is the eighth and final studio album by Scottish alternative rock band Cocteau Twins, issued by Fontana Records in March 1996. It proved to be their last; a meeting two years later to record a new album ended with the breakup of the band. Background and recording The song "Rilkean Heart" was an homage to Jeff Buckley, who was a lifelong lover of the work of poet Rainer Maria Rilke. The Japanese edition of ''Milk & Kisses'' contained two bonus tracks ("Flock Of Soul" and "Primitive Heart"). The Hong Kong edition contained a duet version of "Serpentskirt" sung by Elizabeth Fraser with C-pop artist Faye Wong. Wong later recorded an acoustic version of "Rilkean Heart" for her 1997 album ''Faye Wong'', on which Guthrie and Raymonde also wrote a new song, "Yu Le Chang" ("Amusement Park"), for her. Acoustic Music
Acoustic music is music that solely or primarily uses instruments that produce sound through acoustic means, as opposed to electric or electronic means. While all music was once acoustic, the retronym "acoustic music" appeared after the advent of electric instruments, such as the electric guitar, electric violin, electric organ and synthesizer. Acoustic string instrumentations had long been a subset of popular music, particularly in folk.
