Freedom (Wham! Song)
"Freedom" is a hit song by British pop duo Wham!. It became the group's second number one hit on the UK Singles Chart and reached number three in America. It was written and produced by George Michael, one half of the duo. History '' Cash Box'' said that "George Michael’s R&B tinged vocals soar with the tune’s catchy refrain." '' Billboard'' described the song as a " Motown tribute". Wham! had already enjoyed a successful 1984 by the time "Freedom" was released in October of the year. "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go" had given them their first UK number one and had then reached the top of the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 in the United States. George had then gone to number one with a solo single, "Careless Whisper". "Freedom" was number one in the UK for three weeks, and featured on the album ''Make It Big'', which was issued at the same time. "Freedom" was the 10th biggest-selling single of 1984. This song also reached number 3 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 in the US in September ...

Too Funky
"Too Funky" is a song written and performed by English singer and songwriter George Michael and released by Columbia Records in the United States and Epic Records elsewhere in 1992. The song was Michael's final single for his recording contract with Sony Music before he started legal action to extricate himself from it. "Too Funky" had been initially earmarked for a follow-up to the album ''Listen Without Prejudice Vol. 1'' but Michael shelved the idea, instead donating it, along with two other songs, to the project ''Red Hot + Dance'', which raised money for AIDS awareness. Michael subsequently donated the royalties to the same cause. The song never appeared on any of Michael's studio albums, although later it was included on his solo collection '' Ladies & Gentlemen: The Best of George Michael'' and in the 2017 reissue of ''Listen Without Prejudice Vol. 1'', which also included the two other songs from ''Red Hot + Dance'' and its B-side "Crazyman Dance", all of which wer ...

Faith (George Michael Album)
''Faith'' is the debut solo studio album by the English singer George Michael, released on 30 October 1987 by Columbia Records and Epic Records. In addition to playing various instruments on the album, Michael wrote and produced every track on the recording except for one, "Look at Your Hands", which he co-wrote with David Austin. A "black" inspired pop- R&B album, ''Faith'''s songs include introspective lyrics, which generated controversies about Michael's personal relationships at that time. ''Faith'' peaked at number one on the UK Albums Chart and US ''Billboard'' 200. It stayed for 51 non-consecutive weeks inside the ''Billboard'' 200 top 10, including 12 weeks at number one. It was also the first album by a white solo artist to hit number one on the ''Billboard'' Top Black Albums chart. ''Faith'' spawned four number one singles on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100: "Faith", "Father Figure", " One More Try", and "Monkey", making Michael the only British male solo artist to have fo ...

Faith (George Michael Song)
"Faith" is a song written and performed by George Michael, from his 1987 debut solo album of the same name. It held the number-one position on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 chart for four weeks and, according to ''Billboard'' magazine, was the number-one single of the year in the United States in 1988. The song also reached number one in Australia and Canada and number two on the UK Singles Chart. In 2001, it placed at number 322 on the Songs of the Century list. Writing and recording As with the rest of the album, the track was written, arranged, and produced by Michael. It is claimed that the idea came from publisher Dick Leahy's suggestion that Michael write a rock and roll pastiche. The song began life in May 1987 at PUK Studios, Denmark with Michael doing a 2-bar LinnDrum loop and Hugh Burns playing the Bo Diddley-style acoustic rhythm guitar part on a nameless metal-bodied acoustic. Long-time bassist Deon Estus laid down a bass part, while the cathedral organ part was rec ...

Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go
"Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go" is a song by the English duo Wham!, first released as a single in the UK on 14 May 1984. It became their first UK and US number one hit. It was written and produced by George Michael. The single was certified platinum in the US, which at the time commemorated sales of over two million copies. The music video features Michael and Ridgeley wearing oversized message T-shirts ("CHOOSE LIFE") created by Katharine Hamnett, starting a craze covered in the 2002 VH1 series '' I Love the 80s''. The song was ranked number 28 on VH1's 100 Greatest Songs of the '80s. History Michael's inspiration for the song was a scribbled note that his bandmate Andrew Ridgeley had left for his parents, intended to read "wake me up before you go" but with "up" accidentally written twice, so Ridgeley wrote "go" twice on purpose. In 1984, George Michael had this to say on the development of the song: It was recorded within two days at Sarm West Studio 2 in London, with ...

Make It Big
''Make It Big'' is the second and final studio album from British pop duo Wham!, released in 1984. In comparison to their earlier work, Wham! (George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley) had more control over the album's production and Michael would also be credited as a producer. The album was a commercial success, hitting number one in both the US and the UK and spawning four singles, all reaching the top three in the US and the UK. The music video for single "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go" had the duo in shirts that read ''Choose Life''. It would be the first of several hits from the album. The second single "Careless Whisper" is technically a Wham! song as it appears on the Wham! album ''Make It Big''. However, when released as a single, it was credited either to ''Wham! featuring George Michael'' (in North America and several other countries) or solely to ''George Michael'' (in the United Kingdom and some European countries) as it became apparent, that at some point in the near futu ...

Everything She Wants
"Everything She Wants" is a song by British pop duo Wham!, originally released as a single in 1984 on Epic Records on a double A-side with "Last Christmas". It was written and produced by George Michael, one half of the duo, becoming their third consecutive million-selling number-one hit in the United States. Origin Writing Like most other Wham! songs from this period, it was written by George Michael. He discussed in the Fall 1985 issue of ASCAP In Action: Michael elaborated on the song's lyrics and the meaning behind them in Dick Clark's Countdown radio show: Recording "Everything She Wants" was recorded in August 1984 at Marcadet Studios in Paris using a 3M 32-track recorder and was most likely finished off at Sarm West’s Studio 2 in London after most of ''Make It Big'' had been finished at Studio Miraval in southeastern France over a period of six weeks.
