Tweneboa Kodua
Nana Tweneboa Kodua was the paramount chief of Kumawu who sacrificed his life for the victory of the Asantes. He was asked by Komfo Anokye to do that to ensure the Asante Kingdom's freedom against the Denkyiras in the War of Independence. The Asantes went to war against the king of Denkyiras called Ntim Gyakari Ntim Gyakari (died in1701) was the last fully independent ruler of Denkyira, a state in the boundaries of the modern nation of Ghana. He was asked to lead the marching soldiers and was forbidden to shoot even though he was armed. He was therefore killed. Ashanti People
The Asante, also known as Ashanti () are part of the Akan ethnic group and are native to the Ashanti Region of modern-day Ghana. Asantes are the last group to emerge out of the various Akan civilisations. Twi is spoken by over nine million Asante people as a first or second language. The wealthy, gold-rich Asante people developed the large and influential Ashanti Empire, along the Lake Volta and Gulf of Guinea. Okomfo Anokye
Okomfo Anokye (c.1655-c.1717?/c.1719) was the first priest ( Okomfo) of the Ashanti Empire. Anokye is known for his participation in the expansion of the empire. He was also the codifier of the constitution and laws of the Ashanti Empire. Biography Origins and early life Okomfo Anokye was born in Ghana around 1655. According to Akuapem tradition, he was son of Ano and Yaa Anubea, both from Awukugua in the Nifa Division of the Okere state. His name originated from the following incident: During his birth in Awukugua, it is said he brought with him gifts from the gods; totem poles which were firmly clinched to his palms that no one could open it; and in the other hand already was a short, white tail of a cow (Podua). This claim was apparently later confirmed by Otumfuo Nana Osei Tutu II during his visit at Awukugua in 2014. Denkyira
Denkyira was a powerful nation of Akan people that existed before the 1620s, in what is now modern-day Ghana. Like all Akans, they originated from Bono state. Before 1620, Denkyira was called Agona. The ruler of the Denkyira was called Denkyirahene and the capital was Jukwaa. The first Denkyirahene was Mumunumfi. History Later, the capital of Denkyira moved to Abankeseso. The Denkyira state capital is now Dunkwa-on-Offin. Denkyira became powerful through gold production and trade with Europe. In the 1690s, wars took place between Denkyira and the Asen and Twifo-Heman. The goal of these struggles was to keep open the trade routes to the coast and trade with the Fante State and Europeans. Ntim Gyakari
Ntim Gyakari (died in1701) was the last fully independent ruler of Denkyira, a state in the boundaries of the modern nation of Ghana. He was the brother of Owusu Akoto who later took the family to the Ebrosa Kingdom as exile, which would eventually form a variation of the Agni dialect, Indenie-Djuablin. One of his early actions was to increase his demands of tribute on his northern neighbors. These were led by Osei Tutu of Kumasi who was at that point a political prisoner in Denkyira, and Komfo Anokye. These forces began an insurrection against his rule.
