Twan Poels
Antonius Johannes Petrus Poels (born 27 July 1963 in Oeffelt) is a retired Dutch professional cyclist. In 1984, Poels rode the road race in the 1984 Summer Olympics as a member of the Dutch team, but did not finish. Poels became a professional cyclist in 1985 for the team. He stayed with this team (that became in 1987 and in 1990) until he retired in 1992. He rode the Tour de France five times, finishing every time. After his professional career, he became an Real estate broker/agent, estate agent. Oeffelt
Oeffelt is a village in the Dutch province of North Brabant, about 5 km north of Boxmeer town and 6 km west of the border with the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia. Oeffelt lies on the west bank on the Meuse river with Gennep in the province of Limburg on the east bank. The villages are connected by a bridge in the N264 road. History The settlement Oeffelt was first mentioned in a document in 1075 as Uflo, and means "open forest of the owl". Oeffelt developed in the 12th century on a river bank along the Meuse river. It used to belong to the '' Heren'' of Cuijk. Between 1441 and 1800, it was part of the Duchy of Cleves. The Zoete Naam Jezus (Sweet name Jesus) church was built in 1954 to replace the St Salvator Church which was built by Pierre Cuypers in 1853, but destroyed in 1944 by war. 1984 Summer Olympics
The 1984 Summer Olympics (officially the Games of the XXIII Olympiad and also known as Los Angeles 1984) were an international multi-sport event held from July 28 to August 12, 1984, in Los Angeles, California, United States. It marked the second time that Los Angeles had hosted the Games, the first being in 1932. California was the home state of the incumbent U.S. President Ronald Reagan, who officially opened the Games.
