Tuskegee Golden Tigers Football
The Tuskegee Golden Tigers football program is the intercollegiate American football team for the Tuskegee University located in the U.S. state of Alabama. The team competes in the NCAA Division II level and are members of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The school's first football team was fielded in 1913. The team plays its home games at the 10,000 seat Abbott Memorial Alumni Stadium. They are coached by Willie Slater. Willie Slater
Willie James Slater is an American football coach and college athletics administrator. He was the head football coach for Clark Atlanta University; a position he has held from 2022 to 2023. Slater served as the head football coach at Tuskegee University in Tuskegee, Alabama, from 2006 to 2021. His teams won the Pioneer Bowl in 2006, 2007, and 2009. In 2007, his undefeated squad was named the black small college football national champions and claimed outright or has shared that crown more times. Slater was appointed as athletic director at Tuskegee in 2017. NCAA Division II Football Championship
The NCAA Division II Football Championship is an American college football tournament played annually to determine a champion at the NCAA Division II level. It was first held in 1973, as a single-elimination tournament with eight teams. The tournament field has subsequently been expanded three times; in 1988 it became 16 teams, in 2004 it became 24 teams, and in 2016 it became 28 teams. The National Championship game has been held in seven different cities; Sacramento, California (1973–1975), Wichita Falls, Texas (1976–1977), Longview, Texas (1978), Albuquerque, New Mexico (1979–1980), McAllen, Texas (1981–1985), Florence, Alabama (1986–2013), and Kansas City, Kansas (2014–2017). The Pioneer Bowl was the name of some December college football bowl games played in two different eras. Between 1971 and 1982, the game was contested 10 times in Texas as an NCAA College Division regional final, or as a playoff game for Division II or Division I-AA. Frank Walker (American Football)
Frank Bernard Walker (born August 6, 1981) is a former American football cornerback in the National Football League for the Green Bay Packers, Baltimore Ravens, Minnesota Vikings and Dallas Cowboys. He was drafted by the New York Giants in the sixth round of the 2003 NFL Draft. He played college football at Tuskegee University. Early years Walker attended Booker T. Dennis Sheldon Norfleet (born February 8, 1993) is an American football player. High school career Norfleet played high school football at Detroit's Martin Luther King High School. As a senior in 2011, he rushed for 2,033 yards and 27 touchdowns. As a junior, he rushed for 254 yards against regional football power Brother Rice in the 2010 season opener. Cecil Leonard (July 20, 1946August 5, 2020) was an American professional football player who was a defensive back for two seasons with the New York Jets of the American Football League (AFL) and National Football League (NFL). He was drafted by the Jets in the eighth round of the 1969 NFL Draft. He played college football at Tuskegee University and attended East Highland High School in Sylacauga, Alabama. Anthony Mitchell (American Football)
Anthony Maurice Mitchell (born December 13, 1974) is a former American football safety in the National Football League. He was signed by the Baltimore Ravens as an undrafted free agent in 1999. He played college football at Tuskegee University. Mitchell also played for the Jacksonville Jaguars and Cincinnati Bengals. Drayton Florence, Jr. (born December 19, 1980) is a former American football cornerback who played eleven seasons in the National Football League. He was drafted by the San Diego Chargers in the second round of the 2003 NFL Draft. He played college football at Tennessee-Chattanooga and Tuskegee.
