Tuscaloosa County High School serves grades 9– 12 and is located in Northport, Alabama, America, forming part of the Tuscaloosa County Schools. History The original Tuscaloosa County High was opened near downtown Northport in 1926. In 2000, it was moved to its current location, seven miles north of downtown. Athletics Tuscaloosa County High competes in the Alabama High School Athletic Association, under class 7A region 3. The school's athletic squads are nicknamed the Wildcats. The football team won the 6A State Championship in 1997. Frank Lary
Frank Strong Lary (April 10, 1930 – December 13, 2017) was a Major League Baseball pitcher for the Detroit Tigers (–), New York Mets (1964, ), Milwaukee Braves (1964), and Chicago White Sox (1965). He led the American League with 21 wins in 1956 and ranked second in the same category with 23 wins in 1961. Lary was selected to the American League All-Star team in 1960 and 1961 and won the Gold Glove Award in 1961. He was known variously as "Taters", "Mule", and the "Yankee Killer." Bo Scarbrough (born September 29, 1994) is an American football running back for the Birmingham Stallions of the United States Football League (USFL). He played college football at Alabama. Early years Scarbrough attended Northridge High School in Tuscaloosa, Alabama where he played high school football for the Jaguars. As a freshman, he suffered a broken ankle. As a sophomore, he had 938 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns, before suffering a torn ACL near the end of the season and missing the playoffs. Lurleen Burns Wallace (born Lurleen Brigham Burns; September 19, 1926 – May 7, 1968) was the List of Governors of Alabama, 46th governor of Alabama for 15 months from January 1967 until her death. She was the first wife of Alabama governor George Wallace, whom she succeeded as governor because the Alabama constitution forbade consecutive terms. She was Alabama's first female governor and was the only List of female state governors in the United States, female governor to hold the position until Kay Ivey became the second woman to succeed to the office in 2017. Le'Ron De'Mar McClain (born December 27, 1984) is a former American football Fullback (American football), fullback who played in the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the University of Alabama, and was drafted by the Baltimore Ravens 137th overall in the fourth round of the 2007 NFL Draft. Lillie Mae Leatherwood (born July 6, 1964) is an American athlete who competed mainly in the 400 metres. Biography Leatherwood was born in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Brought up in Ralph, she attended the University of Alabama, in the 1986 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships she captured the 400-m title with a 1st-place finish in an indoor collegiate record-setting time of 51.23s. She was also the National Champion in the 400-meter dash at the 1985 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships, with a time of 53.12 seconds.
