Turtle Soup (comics)
''Turtle Soup'' is the fifth and final studio album by the American rock band the Turtles. It was released in 1969 on the White Whale Records label. The album was produced by Ray Davies of the Kinks – the first time he produced another artist's record. A 1993 Repertoire Records CD-issue included 8 bonus tracks. A 1996 Sundazed Records reissue included two bonus tracks. ''Turtle Soup'' peaked at number 117 on the ''Billboard'' Pop Albums chart. Two singles from the album also earned a place on the ''Billboard'' Pop Singles chart: "You Don't Have to Walk in the Rain" (number 51), and "Love in the City" (number 91). Recording and release The Turtles hired Ray Davies of the Kinks to produce ''Turtle Soup'', having admired his production of the Kinks' latest album, ''The Village Green Preservation Society'', which was released in the United States in February1969. Alan Gordon (songwriter)
Alan Lee Gordon (April 22, 1944 – November 22, 2008) was an American songwriter best known for songs recorded by the Turtles, Petula Clark, and Barbra Streisand. Many of his songs were co-written with Gary Bonner, including the Turtles' " Happy Together" and Three Dog Night's " Celebrate". He worked with various popular musicians, including Blues Magoos, Alice Cooper, the Archies, the O'Jays, Lynn Anderson, Flo & Eddie, Frank Zappa, Helen Reddy, Gary Lewis & the Playboys, Tammy Wynette, the Lovin' Spoonful, Bobby Darin, and Freddy Fender. Judee Sill
Judith Lynne Sill (October 7, 1944 – November 23, 1979) was an American singer and songwriter. The first artist signed to David Geffen's Asylum label, she released two albums on Asylum and partially completed a third album before dying of a drug overdose in 1979. Her eponymous debut album was released in late 1971 and was followed about 18 months later by ''Heart Food''. In 1974, she recorded demos for a third album, which never was completed. The demos were released posthumously with other rarities on the 2005 two-disc collection '' Dreams Come True''. John Seiter
John Seiter (born August 17, 1944) is an American musician. He is best known for his work as a drummer for Spanky and Our Gang and The Turtles. Biography Seiter's first official credit came on a 1972 recording of ''Peter and the Wolf'' for United Artists, the brainchild of actor and director Rob Reiner. Seiter first rose to prominence, however, as a member of the pop group Spanky and Our Gang. He joined the band in 1967, shortly after they achieved their first charting hit, " Sunday Will Never Be the Same", and stayed for three studio albums and a live concert recording. The band collapsed after the 1968 death of Malcolm Hale, and Seiter accepted a position as drummer for The Turtles, replacing John Barbata. The Turtles recorded one final studio album, ''Turtle Soup'', then disbanded as well. Jim Pons
Jim Pons is an American bassist, author and singer who most notably played for the Leaves, the Turtles, and the Mothers of Invention. Biography Jim Pons was born in Los Angeles. In 1964, he joined The Leaves and stayed in the group until 1967. Afterwards, Pons joined The Turtles and remained in the band until their disbandment in 1970. From February 1971 until December 1971, he toured with The Mothers of Invention. In 1973 Pons left the music industry to become the film and video director for the New York Jets football team; he designed the team's 1978–97 team logo. He held this position until his retirement in 2000. Pons and his family moved to Jacksonville, Florida in 2005, where he does game day video for the Jacksonville Jaguars, and plays upright bass in a bluegrass band called Lonesome Ride. Mark Randall Volman (born April 19, 1947) is an American vocalist, guitarist, and songwriter, best known as a founding member of the 1960s rock band The Turtles, and, along with his bandmate and friend Howard Kaylan, a member of the 1970s rock duo Flo & Eddie, where he used the pseudonym Flo (abbreviation from Phlorescent Leech). Howard Kaylan (born Howard Lawrence Kaplan, June 22, 1947) is an American musician and songwriter, best known as a founding member and lead singer of the 1960s rock band The Turtles, and, along with bandmate and friend Mark Volman, a member of the 1970s rock duo Flo & Eddie, where he used the pseudonym Eddie.
