Cyril of Turov, alternately Kirill of Turov (Church Slavonic Кѷриллъ Туровськiй, be, Кірыла Тураўскі, russian: Кирилл Туровский; 1130–1182) was a bishop and saint of the Russian Orthodox Church. He was one of the first and finest theologians of Kievan Rus'; he lived in Principality of Turov, now southern Belarus. His feast day in the Eastern Orthodox Church is on 28 April. He was added to the Roman Catholic Church calendar by Pope Paul VI in 1969. Genya Turovskaya is a Ukrainian American poet, translator and psychotherapist born in Kyiv, Ukraine. Early life and education Genya Turovskaya was born in Kyiv, Ukraine and grew up in the Bronx. She studied comparative literature at Bard College, and psychology at NYU. She received her MFA in comparative literature from Bard College in 2005. Career Turovskaya authored the chapbooks, ''Calendar'' in 2002, ''The Tides'' in 2007, and ''New Year's Day'' in 2011. Mykhaylo Turovsky ( uk, Михайло Туровський, also Mikhail Turovsky; born in 1933 in Kyiv, in the Ukrainian SSR of the Soviet Union) is an American and Ukrainian artist- painter, and writer-aphorist, resident in New York City since 1979. Biography Early life and education Mikhail Turovsky was born in 1933 in Kyiv into the family of Shaul Turovsky, a taylor. During the Second World War, he was evacuated to Samarkand with his mother and an older brother. Although over the draft age, his father volunteered for active duty and was killed in action in 1943. Turovsky attended the art school in Samarkand. His classmates included Ilya Kabakov (later a noted conceptualist artist). Turovsky returned to Kyiv in 1944 and continued his studies at the Shevchenko State Art School. He later graduated from Kyiv Art Institute, where he studied under Tetyana Yablonska in 1960. Yuli Turovsky
Yuli Turovsky OC CQ (7 June 193915 January 2013) was a Soviet-born Canadian cellist, conductor and music educator. His name is mostly associated with the I Musici de Montréal Chamber Orchestra, which he founded in 1983 and led until his death 30 years later. Soviet years Turovsky was born in 1939 in Moscow in the Soviet Union (now Russia). He began playing the cello at the age of seven at the Moscow Central Music School. He later attended the Moscow Conservatory from 1957 to 1969, studying with Galina Kozolupova, among others. In 1969 Turovsky obtained first prize at the Soviet-wide cello competition and second prize at the Prague Spring International Music Festival. He also became the lead cello for the Moscow Chamber Orchestra which Rudolf Barshai had founded about fifteen years earlier and this association marked the beginning of Turovsky's recording career.
