''Turning Point!'' is a Tyrone Davis album released in 1976. This was his final release for Dakar Records. This is the first of two albums by Tyrone Davis in 1976. '' Love and Touch'' was released after his move over to Columbia Records. Background Primarily produced by Leo Graham with the exception of two songs ("Saving My Love for You" and "Turn Back the Hands of Time"), which were handled by Carl Davis and Tom Tom 84. "Turning Point" was the album's lead single and reached No. 1 on the ''Billboard'' Hot Soul Singles chart in February 1976. It was the first number-one soul single to not crossover to the Hot 100 and any ''Billboard'' pop singles chart since 1955. It was Davis's last number-one soul/R&B hit. Two follow ups, "It's So Good (To Be Home with You)" and "Ever Lovin' Girl", peaked at Nos. 9 and 39, respectfully, on the soul singles chart. Tyrone Davis (born Tyrone D. Fettson or Tyrone D. Branch, October 3, 1937 – February 9, 2005) was an American blues and soul singer with a long list of hit records over more than 20 years. Davis had three number 1 hits on the ''Billboard'' R&B chart: "Can I Change My Mind" (1968), "Turn Back the Hands of Time" (1970), and "Turning Point" (1975). Biography Tyrone Fettson was born in Greenville, Mississippi, United States, to Willie Branch and Ora Lee Jones. Some sources give his date of birth as May 4, 1938, but researchers Bob Eagle and Eric LeBlanc state that his funeral notice gives the October 1937 date. He moved with his father to Saginaw, Michigan, before moving to Chicago in 1959. Dakar Records (1967-1976) was a record label started by Carl Davis in 1967, while employed at Brunswick Records. The label was initially distributed by Atlantic Records subsidiary Cotillion Records, and was based in Chicago. All releases after late 1971 were distributed by Brunswick Records. Notable artists on the imprint included Tyrone Davis, Hamilton Bohannon, and Sidney Joe Qualls. Dakar also released LPs by Boobie Knight and the Universal Lady, Even Stevens, Johnny Sayles, Prophets of Soul and Mighty Doug Haynes. Carl H. Davis, Sr. (September 19, 1934 – August 9, 2012) was an American record producer and music executive, who was particularly active in Chicago in the 1960s and 1970s. He was responsible for hit R&B records by Gene Chandler, Major Lance, Jackie Wilson, The Chi-Lites, Barbara Acklin, Tyrone Davis and others. Life and career Davis was born in Chicago and attended Englewood High School. He began working as an assistant to disc jockey Al Benson on radio station WGES in 1955, and then joined a record marketing company. In the early 1960s, he helped run the small Nat record label which had a local hit with the song "Nite Owl" by the DuKays, produced by Davis.
