Turkish Television Drama
Turkish drama ( tr, Türk dizileri) is a type of television series in the Turkish language made in Turkey. These dramas are believed to reflect Turkish culture and considered by some to be the country's most well known economic and cultural exports. It has seen significant growth since the 2000s, and had surpassed Mexico and Brazil as the second-largest exporter of television series after the United States by the mid-2010s. The television industry has played a crucial role in increasing Turkey's popularity in Asia, Europe, Latin America, and North Africa. Turkish series are chiefly produced in Istanbul, following the liberalization of private television in Turkey in the 1990s. Turkish television channels producing dramas include TRT, Kanal D, Show TV, Star TV, ATV, Now, TV8, and Kanal 7. Leyla And Mecnun
''Leyla ile Mecnun'' (''Leyla and Mecnun'') is a Turkish television comedy series. The series, set in Istanbul and directed by Onur Ünlü, premiered in 2011 on TRT. It is a surreal, absurdist comedy revolving around the parody of the poetic love story of Layla and Majnun. It returned with a new season on the streaming platform Exxen in 2021. Plot Leyla and Mecnun were born in the same hospital and shared the same crib because of a shortage—hence the series' catchphrase, "They found each other from the beginning". They were named after the legendary lovers Leyla and Mecnun. Mecnun, a confused 25-year-old from a middle-class family, lives in an historic Istanbul neighborhood. Avrupa Yakası
''Avrupa Yakası'' (''European Side'') is a Turkish sitcom, produced by Sinan Çetin and written by Gülse Birsel. The series was shot at Plato Film studios and its first episode was broadcast on ATV (Turkey), ATV on 11 February 2004. Although the cast of ''Avrupa Yakası'' changed throughout different seasons, Gülse Birsel, Gazanfer Özcan, Levent Üzümcü, Şenay Gürler, Hale Caneroğlu, Yavuz Seçkin, Veysel Diker and Yıldırım Öcek were the permanent actors who portrayed members of the Sütçüoğlu family and the employees of the fictional ''Avrupa Yakası'' magazine, located in Nişantaşı. Halid Ziya Uşaklıgil
Halid Ziya Uşaklıgil (also spelled Halit and Uşakizâde) (; 1866 – 27 March 1945) was a Turkish author, poet, and playwright. A part of the ''Edebiyat-ı Cedide'' ("New Literature") movement of the late Ottoman Empire, he was the founder of and contributor to many literary movements and institutions, including his flagship ''Servet-i Fünun'' ("The Wealth of Knowledge") journal. He was a strong critic of the Sultan Abdul Hamid II, which led to the censorship of much of his work by the Ottoman government. Hatice Tûba Büyüküstün (; born 5 July 1982) is a Turkish actress. She is the recipient of several awards and one of Turkey's most popular and highest paid actresses.
