Turkish Workers' Union In The Netherlands
The Turkish Workers' Union in the Netherlands ( tr, Hollanda Türkiyeli Isçiler Birligi (HTIB), nl, Turkse Arbeidersvereniging in Nederland) is a left-wing organization founded in 1974 by a group Turkish workers. Its first purpose was to commit Turkish workers in the Netherlands to the struggle for an independent and democratic Turkey, and to organize Turkish workers and help them in the struggle for their rights. The HTIB publishes the magazine ''Gerçek'' (Truth). Among its executive members until 2010 was the Groenlinks deputy Tofik Dibi, although born in a Moroccan family. Its present chairperson since 2001 is Mustafa Ayranci, who was among its founding members in 1974. Groenlinks
GroenLinks (, ) is a green political party in the Netherlands. It was formed on 1 March 1989 from the merger of four left-wing parties: the Communist Party of the Netherlands, the Pacifist Socialist Party, the Political Party of Radicals and the Evangelical People's Party, which shared left-wing and progressive ideals and earlier co-operated in Regenboog-coalition for the 1989 European Parliament election. After disappointing results in the 1989 and 1994 general elections, the nascent party fared particularly well in the 1998 and 2002 elections. The party's leader at that time, Paul Rosenmöller, was seen as the unofficial Leader of the Opposition against the First Kok cabinet, a purple government. The party's number of seats fell from 10 to 4 seats in the 2012 election, before increasing to 14 in 2017 and falling to 8 in 2021. The party failed to enter the cabinet in 2017 and 2021-2022. Tofik Dibi
Tovek "Tofik" Dibi (born 19 November 1980 in Vlissingen) is a former Dutch politician for GreenLeft (''GroenLinks''). He was a Member of Parliament from 30 November 2006 till 19 September 2012. He focused on matters of criminal law, safety, youth, family, and integration. Biography Dibi is of Moroccan descent. He has studied Media and Culture at the University of Amsterdam, specializing in cinema. He combined his study with activities in the Marxist Turkish Workers' Union in the Netherlands ( tr, Hollanda Türkiyeli Isçiler Birligi (HTIB), nl, Turkse Arbeidersvereniging in Nederland), and in his own neighborhood Bos en Lommer in Amsterdam. Together with the Trotskyist ''International Socialists'', he initiated the national demonstration ''Stop Bush!'' organizing protests when George W. Turks in the Netherlands (occasionally and colloquially Dutch Turks or Turkish-Dutch; nl, Turkse Nederlander; tr, ) refers to people of full or partial Turkish ethnicity living in the Netherlands. They form the largest ethnic minority group in the country; thus, the Turks are the second-largest ethnic group in the Netherlands after the ethnic Dutch. The majority of Dutch Turks descend from the Republic of Turkey; however, there has also been significant Turkish migration waves from other post- Ottoman countries including ethnic Turkish communities which have come to the Netherlands from the Balkans (e.g. from Bulgaria, Greece, Kosovo, North Macedonia and Romania), the island of Cyprus, as well as from other parts of the Levant (especially Iraq).
