Turf Monster Stakes
The Turf Monster Stakes is a Grade III American Thoroughbred horse race for three years old or older, over a distance of five furlongs on the turf held annually in September at Parx Casino and Racing racetrack in Bensalem, Pennsylvania. As of 2019, the event currently carried a purse of $300,000. History The race was inaugurated on May 27th, 2002 with an attractive purse offered of $100,000 as the Turf Monster Handicap. In 2011 the event was upgraded to a Grade III. The event has attracted fast sprinters from the East Coast of the US, including Pure Sensation, who won this event four times and Ben's Cat who won this event twice. The race was not held in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2021 the ten-year-old Hollywood Talent finished with a late surge and won by lengths at odds of 108-1, but the horse was later disqualified after drug testing found the prohibited substance levamisole. Christophe Clement (born November 1, 1965 in Paris, France) is a Thoroughbred horse trainer in the United States who won the 2014 Belmont Stakes with Tonalist. Racing background Clement initially acquired his training skills from his father, Miguel, a leading trainer in France. Christophe later worked for the prominent French racing family of trainer Alec Head. In the United States, Christophe studied under Hall Of Fame conditioner Shug McGaughey before returning to Europe to work as assistant to trainer Luca Cumani in Newmarket, England. List Of American And Canadian Graded Races
The List of American and Canadian Graded races is a list of Thoroughbred horse races in the United States and Canada that meet the graded stakes standards maintained by the American Graded Stakes Committee of the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association (TOBA) and the Jockey Club of Canada. A specific grade level (I, II, III or listed) is then assigned to the race, based on statistical analysis of the quality of the field in previous years, provided the race meets the minimum purse criteria for the grade in question. The current list is for the previous full 2021 Racing season and the current 2022 Racing season which is maintained by the International Grading and Race Planning Advisory Committee (IRPAC) of the Jockey Club. Joe Bravo (born September 10, 1971 in Long Branch, New Jersey) is a jockey in American Thoroughbred horse racing. The son and grandson of jockeys, he began his professional career in Thoroughbred flat racing at Calder Race Course in Miami Gardens, Florida during the latter end of 1988. Nicknamed "Jersey Joe", Bravo has won 22 riding titles in his career at racetracks in New Jersey—13 at Monmouth Park and nine at the Meadowlands. He got his big break in 1997 when he rode Formal Gold to his victories that year. Bravo has won the Jersey Shore Breeders' Cup Stakes five times, including three straight from 2004 through 2006. John R. (born John Richbourg, August 20, 1910 - February 15, 1986) was an American radio disc jockey who attained fame in the 1950s and 1960s for playing rhythm and blues music on Nashville radio station WLAC. He was also a notable record producer and artist manager. Richbourg was arguably the most popular and charismatic of the four announcers at WLAC who showcased popular African-American music in nightly programs from the late 1940s to the early 1970s. (The other three were Gene Nobles, Herman Grizzard, and Bill "Hoss" Allen.) Jamie Theriot (born January 30, 1979 in Arnaudville, Louisiana) is an American former jockey. The son of Thoroughbred horse trainer Harold Theriot, he is a nephew of jockey Larry Melancon. Theriot, who began riding on bush tracks in his native Louisiana, turned professional at age 16. He competed primarily on the Louisiana-Arkansas-Kentucky racing circuit, where he won a riding title at Evangeline Downs in 2001 and the 2003 riding title at Oaklawn Park Race Track. In 2007, Theriot won his first Grade 1 race, capturing the Shadwell Turf Mile Stakes aboard Purim at Keeneland Race Course. Jeremy Rose
Jeremy Rose (born April 1, 1979 in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania) is an American Thoroughbred racehorse jockey. He began his career as a professional rider at Delaware Park in Wilmington, Delaware and in 2001 was his breakout year and he was voted the United States' Eclipse Award for Outstanding Apprentice Jockey. In 2005, Rose guided Afleet Alex, to victory in two American Classic Races, the Preakness and Belmont Stakes. His performances that year earned him the ESPY Award as the top American jockey of 2005. He earned his 1000th career victory at Delaware Park on July 3, 2005. Reade Baker (born April 30, 1947, in Port Dalhousie, Ontario) is a retired trainer of Thoroughbred racehorses who was voted the 2005 Sovereign Award for Outstanding Trainer in Canada and who in 2018 was inducted into the Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame.
