Turf Club (Ireland)
The Turf Club was the regulatory body for horse racing in Ireland until 31 December 2017. History The origin of the Turf Club was a regulatory body known as ''the Society of Sportsmen'', which became ''The Jockey Club'' by 1755, before taking on its present name of the ''Turf Club'' in 1784. Despite being independent of the English Jockey Club, it did on occasion referred disputes to that organisation. A similar body for National Hunt races, the Irish National Hunt Steeplechase Committee, was later formed under the Turf Club to ensure fair running of National Hunt meetings. Activities The Turf Club regulated both Flat and National Hunt racing in Ireland. It incorporated the Irish National Hunt Steeplechase Committee (INHSC). One of the main functions of the club was the provision of stewards to implement Rules of Racing during races. Jockey Club
The Jockey Club is the largest commercial horse racing organisation in the United Kingdom. It owns 15 of Britain's famous racecourses, including Aintree, Cheltenham, Epsom Downs and both the Rowley Mile and July Course in Newmarket, amongst other horse racing assets such as the National Stud, and the property and land management company, Jockey Club Estates. The registered charity Racing Welfare is also a company limited by guarantee with the Jockey Club being the sole member. As it is governed by Royal Charter, all profits it makes are reinvested back into the sport. Horse Racing Ireland (HRI; ga, Rásaíocht Capaill na hÉireann) is the governing body of horse racing on the island of Ireland. It is based in the Curragh, County Kildare, next to the racecourse of that name. HRI was founded in 2001, succeeding the Irish Horseracing Authority, itself the 1994 successor to the Racing Board founded in 1945.
