Tunisian National Dialogue Quartet
The Tunisian National Dialogue Quartet (Arabic: الرباعي التونسي للحوار الوطني, French: ''Quartet du dialogue national'') is a group of four civil society organizations that were central mediators in the effort to consolidate democratic gains and to form a lasting constitutional settlement in Tunisia following the unrest and historic regime change of the 2011 Jasmine Revolution. /sup> The quartet was formed in the summer of 2013 following a political crisis that halted the constitutional process. Human Rights Defender
A human rights defender or human rights activist is a person who, individually or with others, acts to promote or protect human rights. They can be journalists, environmentalists, whistleblowers, trade unionists, lawyers, teachers, housing campaigners, participants in direct action, or just individuals acting alone. They can defend rights as part of their jobs or in a voluntary capacity. As a result of their activities, human rights defenders (HRDs) are often subjected to reprisals including smears, surveillance, harassment, false charges, arbitrary detention, restrictions on the right to freedom of association, physical attack, and even murder. In 2020, at least 331 HRDs were murdered in 25 countries. The international community and some national governments have attempted to respond to this violence through various protections, but violence against HRDs continues to rise. Hassib Ben Ammar
Hassib Ben Ammar ( ar, حسيب بن عمار) (11 April 1924 – 15 December 2008) was a leading Tunisian politician and journalist/editor. He was a powerful campaigner for human rights. Life Politician As a young man he participated actively in the Tunisian independence struggle, notably as the producer of the clandestine newspaper ''"El Hilal"''. Following national independence, in 1961 he was appointed to preside over the "National office of Mines". The United Nations Prizes in the Field of Human Rights were instituted by United Nations General Assembly in 1966. They are intended to "honour and commend people and organizations which have made an outstanding contribution to the promotion and protection of the human rights embodied in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and in other United Nations human rights instruments". Mohamed Charfi (11 October 1936 – 6 June 2008) was a Tunisia, Tunisian academic and politician who served as Ministry of Education (Tunisia), Minister of Education of Tunisia from 1989 to 1994. Early life Charfi was born in Sfax, Tunisia, on October 11, 1936. He studied at the Paris Law Faculty. He was an active member of the Tunisia General Student Union (''Union générale des étudiants tunisiens)'' in Paris in the 1960s and cofounded the leftist group ''Perspectives''.
