Tulsa Public Schools is an independent school district serving the Tulsa, Oklahoma area in Northeastern Oklahoma. As of 2022, it is the largest school district in Oklahoma, surpassing Oklahoma City Public Schools for the first time since 2013. As of 2022 the district serves approximately 33,211 students. It is governed by an elected school board. As of November 2021, the Tulsa Public Schools district is accredited by the Oklahoma State Department of Education. The ''Tulsa World'' is the daily newspaper for the city of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and primary newspaper for the northeastern and eastern portions of Oklahoma. Tulsa World Media Company is part of Lee Enterprises. The new owners announced in January 2020 that a corporate purchase was made of BH Media Group, a Berkshire Hathaway company controlled by Warren Buffett. The Knowledge is Power Program, commonly known as KIPP, is a network of free open-enrollment college-preparatory schools in low income communities throughout the United States. Will Rogers High School
Will Rogers Middle and High School, located at 3909 E. 5th Place in Tulsa, Oklahoma, was built by Tulsa Public Schools in 1939 using WPA workers and designed by Joseph R. Koberling, Jr. and Leon B. Senter. It was named for the humorist Will Rogers, who died in 1935, along with Wiley Post in a plane crash. Significant additions were made to the original structure in 1949 and 1964. The alterations were in keeping with the original design and did not detract from the school's architectural or historical significance. McLain Magnet High School for Science and Technology is a high school in Tulsa, Oklahoma. It was named after 20th Century US Army Lieutenant General Raymond S. McLain. McLain Magnet High School is one of eleven high schools in Tulsa Public Schools. History McLain High School was opened at its current location on North Peoria Avenue in 1959, making it (then and now) the northernmost high school in the Tulsa Public Schools district. Its namesake was the recently deceased Raymond S. East Central High School is one of nine high schools in Tulsa Public Schools in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The school is home to 1,143 students from East Tulsa. The majority of students transition into East Central from: East Central Junior High. History East Central was founded in 1904 as an independent school district. The original combined school was built on the northeast corner of what is now Admiral Blvd. and Garnett Road in 1927 that supported an elementary school, a junior high school, and high school.
