Tuks FM
Tuks FM is the radio station of the University of Pretoria and one of South Africa's community broadcasters. It was one of the first community broadcasters in South Africa to be given an FM licence. Previously renowned for its alternative rock music offering, the station underwent a musical transformation, where its playlist was changed to reflect the student population. Tuks FM is a volunteer, campus station, meaning that it is completely operated by students, save for upper management. History The station was formed in 1980 and had its first transmission on 9 February 1981, where it only broadcast to the Cafeteria and launched with a live performance from David Kramer. Initially it broadcast only to the University of Pretoria main campus. In 1982-1984 broadcast points extended to all university residences as well as the Onderstepoort and Medical Campuses. The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) is the public broadcaster in South Africa, and provides 19 radio stations ( AM/ FM) as well as six television broadcasts to the general public. It is one of the largest of South Africa's state-owned enterprises. SuperSport is a South Africa-based group of television channels carried on the DStv & Canal+ satellite platforms as well as GOtv terrestrial platform. M-Net (an abbreviation of Electronic Media Network) is a South African pay television channel established by Naspers in 1986. The channel broadcasts both local and international programming, including general entertainment, children's series, sport and movies. OFM is a regional radio station based in Bloemfontein, South Africa. It was originally a split of Radio Highveld, and began broadcasting under the name Radio Oranje (Radio Orange – after the Orange Free State, its home province) in 1986. Footprint OFM covers four provinces – the Free State, the North West province, Gauteng Gauteng and the Northern Cape province. In 2005, it commenced broadcasts into the Vaal Triangle area.
