One of the few blackwater rivers in the northeastern United States, the river drains an area of the southern Pinelands and empties into the Atlantic Ocean. Course The Tuckahoe River rises in central Atlantic County, approximately east of Vineland and flows south, then east, forming part of the boundary between Atlantic and Cape May counties, then past Tuckahoe, where it becomes navigable. It flows into Great Egg Harbor Bay just south of the mouth of the Great Egg Harbor River, approximately southwest of Atlantic City. The lower form a widening estuary through Great Cedar Swamp downstream from its head of navigation at Tuckahoe. Belleplain State Forest
Belleplain State Forest is a New Jersey State Forest in northern Cape May County and eastern Cumberland County. It has many young pine, oak and Atlantic white cedar trees, having better soil than the northern Pine Barrens. It was established in 1928 and the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) set up camps in 1933, and converted Meisle Cranberry Bog into Lake Nummy, and constructed the original forest headquarters, maintenance building, a road system, bridges, and dams. The forest includes recreational facilities for picnicking, boating, camping, hunting and fishing, swimming, and over of walking trails. A fee is charged for camping and picnicking. On June 7, 2002, the Green Acres Program added of privately owned land to Belleplain. Great Egg Harbor Bay (or Great Egg Harbor) is a bay between Atlantic County, New Jersey, Atlantic and Cape May County, New Jersey, Cape May counties along the southern New Jersey coast. As vegetation decays, tannins leach into the water, making a transparent, acidic water that is darkly stained, resembling black tea.
