Tsepina Cove
Tsepina Cove ( bg, залив Цепина, ‘Zaliv Tsepina’ \'za-liv 'tse-pi-na\) is the 1 km wide cove indenting for 850 m the east coast of Robert Island in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica. It is entered south of Galiche Rock off Somovit Point, and north of Batuliya Point. The feature is named after the medieval fortress of Tsepina in southern Bulgaria. Robert Island
Robert Island or Mitchells Island or Polotsk Island or Roberts Island is an island long and wide, situated between Nelson Island and Greenwich Island in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica. Robert Island is located at . Surface area . The name "Robert Island" dates back to around 1821 and is now established in international usage. Much of the Coppermine Peninsula in the west of the island is made up by a perched strandflat surface that was in past at sea level. Captain Richard Fildes may have named Robert Island for his brig . Fildes was sealing in the South Shetlands in 1821–1822 until ice destroyed his vessel in March 1822. Fildes Strait is named for him. South Shetland Islands
The South Shetland Islands are a group of Antarctic islands with a total area of . They lie about north of the Antarctic Peninsula, and between southwest of the nearest point of the South Orkney Islands. By the Antarctic Treaty of 1959, the islands' sovereignty is neither recognized nor disputed by the signatories and they are free for use by any signatory for non-military purposes. The islands have been claimed by the United Kingdom since 1908 and as part of the British Antarctic Territory since 1962. Somovit Point ( bg, нос Сомовит, ‘Nos Somovit’ \'nos 'so-mo-vit\) is a point on the east coast of Robert Island in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica projecting 500 m into Bransfield Strait between Kruni Cove and Tsepina Cove. Batuliya Point
Batuliya Point ( bg, нос Батулия, ‘Nos Batuliya’ \'nos ba-'tu-li-ya\) is an ice-free tipped point forming the east extremity of Robert Island and the south side of the entrance to Tsepina Cove in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica. The point, projecting 550 m into Bransfield Strait, is situated 5.4 km northeast of the southeast extremity of Robert Point, 3 km north-northeast of Sadala Point, and 1.9 km south (and a trifle to the east) of Kitchen Point. Tsepina
Tsepina ( bg, Цепина) or Tzepaina ( el, Τζέπαινα) was a castle and town in the western Rhodope mountains, southern Bulgaria, now in ruins. It is from the Dorkovo village in the north-eastern part of the Chepino Valley. Tsepina is above sea level. The town was built on a steep height at above sea level. Its outer walls closed an area of 25 decares and was dominated by a citadel at the top of the cliff. The foundations of three churches have been excavated as well as four large water storage tanks up to deep. History The site was already settled in prehistoric times. Remnants of pottery from the 4th–6th century and houses and a large three-aisled church in the area of the citadel point to a settlement during early Byzantine times. The Bulgarians took the castle in the 9th century but with the end of the First Bulgarian Empire in the beginning of the 11th century the Byzantines conquered it.
