Monguor People
The Monguor (; Tu: Mongghul), the Tu people (), the White Mongol or the Tsagaan Mongol, are Mongolic people and one of the 56 officially recognized ethnic groups in China. The "Tu" ethnic category was created in the 1950s. According to the 2000 census, the total population was 241,198, who mostly lived in the Qinghai and the Gansu provinces. The 2010 census gave their number as 289,565. The Monguor people speak the Monguor language, which belongs to the family of Mongolic languages but has been heavily influenced by both the local Chinese and Tibetan dialects. Today, nearly all Tu people also speak Chinese. Most are farmers and some keep livestock. Their culture and the social organizations have been influenced by Tibetan Buddhism, Confucianism, Taoism and local beliefs. The Mongolian Lunar New Year, commonly known as Tsagaan Sar ( mn, Цагаан сар, ''Cagán sar'' / , or literally White Moon),, ; xal, Цаһан сар, ''Cahan sar'', ; tyv, Шагаа is the first day of the year according to the Mongolian lunisolar calendar. The festival of the Lunar New Year is celebrated by the Mongols and some Turkic peoples. The holiday has shamanistic influences. Tsagaan-Üür, Khövsgöl
Tsagaan-Üür ( mn, Цагаан-Үүр) is a sum of Khövsgöl aimag. The area is 8,730 km2, of which only 1,140 km2 are pasture. In 2000, Tsagaan-Üür had a population of 2,421 people, including Khalkha, Uriankhai, and Buriad. The sum center, officially named ''Bulgan'' ( mn, Булган), is located on the banks of the Üür River, 173 km north-east of Mörön and 844 km from Ulaanbaatar. History The Tsagaan-Üür sum was founded, together with the whole Khövsgöl aimag, in 1931. In 1933, it had 2,400 inhabitants in 690 households, and about 22,000 head of livestock. The local negdel, first named Uilgan and later Tsog, was founded in 1939. Economy In 2004, there were about 22,000 head of livestock, among them 3,400 goats, 3,900 sheep, 11,300 cattle and yaks, and 3,400 horses, but no camels.

Tsagaan-Uul, Khövsgöl
Tsagaan-Uul ( mn, Цагаан-Уул, ''lit. "white mountain"'') is a sum of Khövsgöl aimag. The area is about 5,870 km², of which 5,190 km² are pasture. In 2005, the sum had 5145 inhabitants, mainly Khalkha and Khotgoid. The center officially named ''Sharga'' ( mn, Шарга), is located 138 km west of Mörön and 840 kilometers from Ulaanbaatar. History The Tsagaan-Uul sum was founded, together with the whole Khövsgöl aimag, in 1931. In 1933, it had about 3,800 inhabitants in 1150 households, and about 101,000 heads of livestock. in 1959, parts of Tsagaan-Uul were carved out to form Bürenkhaan sum, in 1963 Sharga sum was joined to Tsagaan-Uul, and in 1973 Bürenkhaan sum was dissolved again and partially joined to Tsagaan-Uul. The local negdel, under the name Badral, was founded in 1956. Mandalgovi ( mn, Мандалговь; ; also Mandalgov' or Mandalgobi) is the capital of the Dundgovi Province of Mongolia, about 300 km south of Ulaanbaatar on the border of the Gobi Desert. Vladimir Okonovich Karuev (born 2 April 1957), better known by his Kalmyk name Okna Tsahan Zam, is a Kalmyk folk singer, known for his throat singing and as a performer of the Kalmyk national epic ''Jangar''. Biography Okna Tsahan Zam does not have a traditional music education. According to an interview he gave to Tim Cope, an adventure filmmaker and author, he was educated in Moscow as a nuclear engineer and worked at a nuclear power plant. He turned to Kalmyk culture in his twenties and became a performer of the national epic ''Jangar''. He toured extensively in Mongolia, as well as in Europe.
