True North Records
True North Records is a Canadian independent record label. History True North Records was founded in Mississauga, Ontario in 1969 by Bernie Finkelstein. By 1971, True North was producing albums for various Canadian musicians, including Bruce Cockburn and Murray McLauchlan, which were then distributed by Columbia Records in Canada. The company also arranged US distribution for some of its artists. In December 2007, the company was acquired by an investment group led by Linus Entertainment with Finkelstein remaining as Chairman. The company won a Juno Award in 1974 for "Best Independent Record Company of the Year" and began operating a concert division, True North Concerts, in 2008. Waterdown, Ontario
Waterdown is a village in Canada which since 2001 has been a community of Hamilton, Ontario. Waterdown is approximately 60 km west of downtown Toronto. On January 1, 2001 the new city of Hamilton was formed from the amalgamation of six municipalities: Hamilton, Ontario, Ancaster, Dundas, Flamborough, Glanbrook, and Stoney Creek. Before amalgamation, the "old" City of Hamilton had 331,121 Hamiltonians divided into 100 neighbourhoods. The new amalgamated city has 490,268 people in over 200 neighbourhoods. Waterdown was created from that part of East Flamborough Township on the edge of the Niagara Escarpment, just east of the junction of King's Highways Nos. 5 and 6, traditionally known as Clappison's Corners. Lighthouse (band)
Lighthouse is a Canadian rock band formed in 1968 in Toronto, Ontario, whose repertoire included elements of rock music, jazz, classical music, and swing and featured horns, string instruments, and vibraphone. They won Juno Awards for Best Canadian Group of the Year in 1972, 1973, and 1974. Band history Formation Lighthouse was formed in 1968 in Toronto by vocalist/drummer Skip Prokop, previously of the Paupers, and keyboardist Paul Hoffert. The two met on a flight from New York City to Toronto, and discussed forming a band structured around a rock rhythm section, jazz horn section, and classical string section. Prokop had admired Ralph Cole's playing when they shared the bill at the Grande Ballroom in Detroit, so he invited him to Toronto to be the band's guitarist. Randy Bachman
Randolph Charles Bachman (; born September 27, 1943) is a Canadian guitarist, singer, and songwriter. He was a founding member of the bands The Guess Who and Bachman–Turner Overdrive. Bachman recorded as a solo artist and was part of a number of short-lived bands such as Brave Belt, Union and Ironhorse. He was a national radio personality on CBC Radio, hosting the weekly music show, ''Vinyl Tap''. Bachman was inducted into the Musicians Hall of Fame and Museum in 2016. Barnard Franklin "Barney" Bentall (born March 14, 1956) is a Canadian pop/rock singer-songwriter who is most well known for his 1990s-era band, Barney Bentall and the Legendary Hearts. Joel Kroeker
Joel Kroeker is a Canadian singer/songwriter. During his musical career, he was signed to the True North Records music label. Kroeker is also a specialized ethnomusicologist and a registered clinical counsellor, an accredited music therapist and a Zürich-trained Jungian analyst. He is of Mennonite heritage. He has released two official albums ''Melodrama'' (2004) and ''Closer to the Flame'' (2007) in addition to an earlier independent album release called ''Naive Bohemian'' (1999). Hunter Valentine is an alternative rock band formed in 2004 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Hunter Valentine have a moderate fan base in southern Ontario. History The current members of Hunter Valentine are Kiyomi McCloskey, Laura Petracca, Leanne Bowes and Aimee Bessada. They signed with True North Records in fall 2006, and released their first full-length album, The Impatient Romantic, on April 10, 2007. Scott B and Beth B (also known as Scott and Beth B, Beth and Scott B or The Bs after B Movies) were among the best-known New York No Wave underground film makers of the late 1970s and early 1980s. Gregory Hoskins and the Stickpeople were a Canadian folk rock band active between 1985 and 1996. best known for their 1991 single "Neighbourhood".
