The Troy Sabres were an American semi-professional ice hockey team in Troy, Ohio. They played in the Continental Hockey League from 1982 to 1986, and the All-American Hockey League in the 1986–1987 season. The club folded in 1987. Troy, Ohio
Troy is a city in and the county seat of Miami County, Ohio, Miami County, Ohio, United States, located north of Dayton, Ohio, Dayton. The population was 26,305 at the 2020 United States census, 2020 census, making it the largest city in Miami County and the 55th largest city in Ohio; it is part of the Dayton, Ohio, Dayton Greater Dayton, Metropolitan Statistical Area. Troy is home to an annual Strawberry Festival the first weekend in June. History Troy was platted ca. 1807. A post office in Troy has been in operation since 1824. The Continental Hockey League is a defunct semi-professional ice hockey league which operated from 1972 to 1986. It is known as the predecessor to the All-American Hockey League, in which three teams (Danville Dashers, Dayton Jets, and Troy Sabres) were charter members. All-American Hockey League
The All-American Hockey League (AAHL) was a minor professional hockey league formed in 1986 after the Continental Hockey League (CnHL) ceased operations. The league was created by the CnHL teams Danville, Dayton, and Troy adding the Downriver Stars and the Jackson All-Americans. In 1987, the AAHL absorbed the two remaining teams from Atlantic Coast Hockey League. After a single season in the AAHL, Carolina, Johnstown, and Virginia left the league to form the East Coast Hockey League. The AAHL only lasted one more season and folded after the 1988–89 season. Hobart Arena
The Hobart Arena is a 3,782-seat multi-purpose arena in Troy, Ohio. It officially opened with 10 sold-out performances of Holiday on Ice in September 1950. The Hobart Arena, contrary to popular belief, was not the first Ohio venue for Elvis Presley on November 24, 1956, as he had played in Cleveland a year earlier. The 1950s also saw performances by Roy Rogers, Gene Autry, Nat King Cole, Tex Ritter, Sonja Henie, Victor Borge, Liberace, Guy Lombardo, and Patti Page. Moose Lallo
Morris G. "Moose" Lallo (also known as Maurice; September 25, 1924September 1, 2020), was a Canadian ice hockey player, coach, and general manager. He played in over 1000 professional games during 19 seasons in the minor leagues. He played on five championship teams, and was named a first-team all-star in both the International Hockey League and the Eastern Hockey League. Lallo became a player-coach in 1960, then later became a full-time head coach and general manager which lasted for 24 seasons. During his first 17 seasons of coaching with the Muskegon Zephyrs and Muskegon Mohawks, his teams won the Fred A. Huber Trophy seven times as regular season champions, made the playoffs 13 times, and won the Turner Cup twice. He coached another seven seasons after leaving Muskegon and was named the IHL Coach of the Year five times. Maurice Benoit
Joseph Maurice Leo "Moe" Benoit (July 26, 1932 – December 10, 2013) was a Canadians, Canadian professional Ice hockey, hockey defenceman. Benoit was born in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, Valleyfield, Quebec and started playing professional hockey in 1948 for the Royal Montreal Hockey Club, Montreal Royals. After a five-year break he began playing again for the Trois-Rivières Lions (1955–1960), Trois-Rivières Lions. He had successful seasons with the Belleville McFarlands—the 1959 Team Canada that won the World Championships in Prague, Czechoslovakia. and also played for the Kingston Frontenacs (EPHL), Kingston Frontenacs in the late fifties. Benoit helped the Canada at the Winter Olympics, Canadian Olympic Hockey Team get the silver medal in the 1960 Winter Olympics.
