Troy E. Black
Troy E. Black (born 1968/1969) is a United States Marine and the 19th and current Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps as of July 26, 2019. Early life Black is a native of Louisville, Kentucky and a 1987 graduate of Jeffersontown High School. Military career Black entered U.S. Marine recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island in April 1988, graduating in July 1988. In October 1988, he graduated from the United States Marine Corps School of Infantry at Camp Geiger in North Carolina and received the military occupational specialty of 0331-Machine Gunner. In December 1988, Black graduated the Marine Security Force School and was posted to the Marine Detachment aboard the USS Forrestal (CV-59) that deployed in 1989 in support of Operation Just Cause and to the Mediterranean. A company is a military unit, typically consisting of 80–250 soldiers and usually commanded by a major or a captain. Most companies are formed of three to seven platoons, although the exact number may vary by country, unit type, and structure. Usually several companies are grouped as a battalion or regiment, the latter of which is sometimes formed by several battalions. The Marine Corps Security Force Regiment is a dedicated security and anti-terrorism unit of the United States Marine Corps. It provides security forces to guard high-value naval installations, most notably those containing nuclear vessels and weapons.
