Troup County (pronounced ) is a county located in the west central portion of the U.S. state of Georgia. As of the 2020 census, the population was 69,426.US Census Bureau, 2020 Report, Troup County, Georgia The county seat is LaGrange. Troup County comprises the LaGrange, GA Micropolitan Statistical Area. It is included in the Atlanta- Athens-Clarke County-Sandy Springs, GA Combined Statistical Area. History For thousands of years, this area of what is now defined as west central Georgia was occupied by cultures of indigenous peoples. In the historic period, it was part of a large area controlled by the Muscogee, also known as the Creek people. The land for Lee, Muscogee, Troup, Coweta, and Carroll counties was ceded by the Creek to the United States in the 1825 Treaty of Indian Springs. Josephine Troup
Emily Josephine Troup (7 July 1853, Woodberry Down, London – 11 April 1913, Saltwood, Kent) was an English composer of songs and works for piano and violin. A scholarship for female students studying orchestral composition was established in her name at the Royal Academy of Music, in London. Her obituary states that she founded the scholarship. Family and early life Josephine was the youngest daughter of Susanna and John Troup, a jeweller and watchmaker, of Essex Lodge, Clapton, England. Her early years were spent among Unitarian surroundings where it is thought she probably acquired the habit of industry that led her to develop so fully her exceptional musical and literary gifts, and the keen sense of duty that made her ever anxious to use them as a means of social service. Princess Amelia (1799 Packet)
''Princess Amelia'' was launched in 1799 and became a packet for the British Post Office Packet Service, sailing from Falmouth, Cornwall. She sailed to North America, the West Indies, Mediterranean, and Brazil. In 1800 a French privateer captured her, but she returned to the packet service later the same year. Joshua Barney, in the American privateer , captured her on 16 September 1812, at the start of the War of 1812. The United states Navy took her into service as HMS ''Georgia'', but then renamed her USS ''Troup''. She served as a guardship at Savannah; the Navy sold her in 1815. Packet As a packet, ''Princess Amelia'' sailed from Falmouth on numerous voyages to Jamaica, to the Mediterranean, and to Brazil. Walter Troup
Major Walter Troup (16 October 1869 – 14 December 1940) was an English first-class cricketer who was born in Uttar Pradesh, India. He was a member of the inaugural All-India team. He debuted for Gloucestershire in 1887 at the age of 17. A defensive batsman, it is said that he once batted for 95 minutes against Lancashire during a game in 1888 and didn't score a run. Torell Troup (born June 23, 1988) is a former American football defensive tackle. Troup was drafted by the Buffalo Bills in the second round of the 2010 NFL Draft. He played college football at UCF. High school career Troup attended Salem High School in Conyers, Georgia, where he was a two-time first-team all-state performer as a junior and senior. Robyn Troup (born February 11, 1988 in Houston, Texas) is an American singer who was the winner of the "My Grammy Moment" contest organized by NARAS and Yahoo! Music in 2007. Troup attended Yates High School in Houston. She is currently enrolled at University of Southern California. She previously auditioned for ''American Idol'' Season 6 during Summer 2006. Robert Scott Troup Order of St Michael and St George, CMG Order of the Indian Empire, CIE Fellow of the Royal Society, FRS (13 December 1874 – 1 October 1939) was a British forestry expert. He spent the first part of his career in Colonial India, returning to England in 1920 to head Oxford's School of Forestry. Education Troup was educated at Aberdeen Grammar School and the University of Aberdeen. He then entered Cooper's Hill College, which trained engineers and forest conservators for Indian service; there he trained under William Schlich. Robert Troup (1757 – January 14, 1832) was a soldier in the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War and a United States district judge of the United States District Court for the District of New York. He participated in the Battles of Saratoga and was present at the surrender of British General John Burgoyne. Education Born in 1757, in Elizabethtown, Province of New Jersey, British America, Troup graduated from King's College (now Columbia University) in 1774 and read law, with John Jay. Rasa Troup (née Michniovaitė) (born March 1, 1977) is a Lithuanian steeplechase runner. She represented Lithuania at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, and competed in the inaugural women's 3000 m steeplechase. She is also a registered and licensed dietitian, specializing in health and nutrition, and a full-fledged member of the American Dietetic Association (ADA). Born and raised in Vilnius from a highly sports-minded family, Troup started out her athletic career as a middle-distance runner, and had won several titles in national junior championships for both indoor and outdoor competitions. Malcolm Troup
Malcolm Troup (22 February 1930 – 8 December 2021) was a Canadian classical pianist, musicologist, academic administrator and teacher, who spent much of his career in London. Early life and education Troup was born on 22 February 1930 in Toronto to Wendela (née Seymour Conway), a musician, and William Troup, a stockbroker who had farmed cattle in Scotland. He received his earliest piano lessons from his mother. He studied with Alberto Guerrero and Norman Wilks at the Toronto Conservatory; Glenn Gould was a fellow pupil and the two became friends.
