Trouble (band)
Trouble is an American doom metal band from Aurora, Illinois, formed in 1979. They are often considered one of the pioneers of doom metal, and have been referred to as one of the genre's "big four" alongside Candlemass, Pentagram and Saint Vitus. The band created a distinct style, taking influences of the British heavy metal bands Black Sabbath and Judas Priest,Leif Edling, Trouble interview, ''Trouble Live In Stockholm'' DVD. and psychedelic rock of the 1970s. Trouble's first two albums, ''Psalm 9'' and ''The Skull'', are cited as landmarks of doom metal. To date, they have released eight studio albums. Although never officially disbanded, they went inactive after original singer Eric Wagner left in 1997. He rejoined in 2000 and left again eight years later; he was first replaced by Kory Clarke and then by current vocalist Kyle Thomas, who had also filled in for Wagner during his initial absence from Trouble. Cathedral (band)
Cathedral were a doom metal band from Coventry, England. The group gained attention upon release of its debut album, ''Forest of Equilibrium'' (1991), which is considered a classic of the genre. However, the band's sound evolved quickly and began to adopt characteristics of 1970s metal, hard rock and progressive rock. After releasing ten full-length albums and touring extensively for over two decades, Cathedral broke up after the release of ''The Last Spire'' in 2013. Saint Vitus (band)
Saint Vitus is an American doom metal band formed in Los Angeles in 1979. They are considered to be one of the first doom metal bands, and have been labeled as one of the "big four" of that genre, along with Candlemass, Pentagram and Trouble. Having released nine studio albums to date, Saint Vitus never achieved a popular breakthrough, but have exerted great influence on the development of doom metal, sludge metal, and stoner rock. The original line-up consisted of Dave Chandler (guitar), Mark Adams (bass), Armando Acosta (drums) and Scott Reagers (vocals). They recorded their first two albums before Scott Weinrich replaced Reagers in 1986. The line-up of Chandler, Adams, Acosta and Weinrich is the longest-lasting. Pentagram (band)
Pentagram is an American heavy metal band from Alexandria, Virginia, most famous as one of the pioneers of heavy metal, and the subgenre of doom metal in particular. As such, they are considered one of the "big four of doom metal", alongside Candlemass, Saint Vitus and Trouble. The band was prolific in the underground scene of the 1970s, producing many demos and rehearsal tapes, but did not release a full-length album until reforming in the early 1980s with an almost completely new line-up. Throughout the band's history the only constant member has been vocalist Bobby Liebling. The revolving line-up of Pentagram has featured many well-respected musicians in the local doom metal scene, with members spending time in other acts such as the Obsessed, Place of Skulls, Internal Void, Spirit Caravan, among many others. Candlemass is a Swedish epic doom metal band established in Stockholm in 1984 by bassist, songwriter and bandleader Leif Edling and drummer Matz Ekström. Doom Metal
Doom metal is an extreme subgenre of heavy metal music that typically uses slower tempos, low-tuned guitars and a much "thicker" or "heavier" sound than other heavy metal genres.K. Ted Kirkpatrick
Ted Kirkpatrick (May 22, 1960 – August 19, 2022) was an American musician and songwriter, best known for his work with the American Christian thrash metal band Tourniquet. Primarily a drummer, Kirkpatrick was the principal songwriter for the band, and played other instruments as necessary. Career (1987–2022) Kirkpatrick started as a touring drummer for the doom metal band Trouble in 1987, and played a few shows with the group. However, he soon left Trouble as he was unable to meet its touring commitments. In 1989, he formed the group Tourniquet with Guy Ritter and Gary Lenaire. The group performed a highly progressive style of thrash and speed metal, informed by Kirkpatrick's love of classical music. Barry Stern
Barry Stern (January 24, 1960April 1, 2005) was a heavy metal drummer from Chicago, Illinois. History Zoetrope and Trouble (1976-1995) From 1976 until 1988, he drummed for Zoetrope, for whom he also served as vocalist and songwriter. After recording two albums with that band, Stern joined Trouble in 1989. He appeared on two of their albums, 1990's ''Trouble'' and 1992's '' Manic Frustration'', before leaving in 1993. In 1994, Barry replaced Joe Hasselvander in Cathedral for touring purposes. Final musical projects and Death (2005-2007) A guest spot on Debris Inc.'s 2005 self-titled debut album was Barry's final recording appearance. Stern died on April 1, 2005 from complications following hip replacement surgery. Eric Wagner
Eric Wagner (April 24, 1959 – August 22, 2021) was an American heavy metal singer, best known for his work with doom metal band Trouble. Career Wagner formed Trouble in 1979. He briefly left the band in the mid-1990s and formed Lid with guitarist Daniel Cavanagh, resulting in 1997's ''In the Mushroom''. He also appeared on Dave Grohl's heavy metal side-project ''Probot'' in 2004 with the song "My Tortured Soul". He rejoined Trouble in 2000, and recorded one more album with them, '' Simple Mind Condition'' (2007), before leaving the band once again in May 2008 to pursue other musical interests and projects. Wagner had also been recording under the band name Blackfinger. He also formed The Skull, which features former Trouble bassist Ron Holzner.
