Troon Tornadoes
The Ayrshire Tornadoes are a Scottish basketball club based in Dalry, North Ayrshire. History The club was founded in 1991 as Troon Basketball Club, playing home games at Marr College, Troon. As one of Scotland's leading amateur basketball clubs, the club joined the Scottish Men's National League for the 1998–99 season as the Troon Tornadoes, quickly establishing themselves as a very capable National League team. Their first title came 4 years later, winning the Scottish National League in 2002, with only a single defeat all season. The Tornadoes would finish in the top-3 teams for 5 of the next 6 seasons, including another National League title in 2006. During this period the Tornadoes also claimed the Scottish Cup title on three occasions. From 2008 onwards, the club remained competitive in the National League albeit in a slow and steady decline down the league standings. Dalry, North Ayrshire
Dalry () is a small town in the Garnock Valley in Ayrshire, Scotland. Drakemyre is a northern suburb. History Dalry (from gd, Dail Ruighe, 'the haugh at the slope') is a small settlement on the Rye Burn. Its history has signs of early inhabitants in the area; the remains of an ancient fort, made of three concentric round walls, can be found on the summit of Carwinning Hill to the North of Dalry, west of the B784 to Largs. In 1883 excavations by John Smith of caves in the Dalry Blair estate at Cleeves Cove found evidence of prehistoric man and otter bones. Aitnock Fort at the south-west angle of Hindog Glen, was excavated by John Smith in 1901–02, it showed a possible dun occupying the summit of a cliff which rises about perpendicularly from the Rye Water. North Ayrshire ( gd, Siorrachd Àir a Tuath, ) is one of 32 council areas in Scotland. The council area borders Inverclyde to the north, Renfrewshire and East Renfrewshire to the northeast, and East Ayrshire and South Ayrshire to the east and south respectively. Marr College
Marr College (Scottish Gaelic: ''Colaiste Mhàrr'') is a co-educational secondary school in Troon, South Ayrshire, Scotland. It is owned by the Marr Trust and is operated by South Ayrshire Council which was transferred to then Strathclyde Regional Council in 1975, with South Ayrshire Council being responsible for providing the educational provisional provided by the school. The school was gifted to the town of Troon by Charles Kerr Marr. Throughout 2016-2017, it underwent extensive restoration works including a new build extending on from the original school building. In 2021, 991 pupils attend Marr College. In 2022, Marr College was ranked as the 68th best performing state school in Scotland, a drop from 35th in the 2021 rankings. Troon
Troon is a town in South Ayrshire, situated on the west coast of Ayrshire in Scotland, about north of Ayr and northwest of Glasgow Prestwick Airport. Troon has a port with freight services and a yacht marina. Up until January 2016, P&O Ferries, P&O operated a seasonal ferry service to Larne. In May 2006, a ferry service to Campbeltown was added, although this was withdrawn the following year. Guildford Heat
The Surrey Scorchers are an English professional basketball team based in Guildford, Surrey, that compete in the British Basketball League. The team was established in 2005 as the Guildford Heat by fans of former British Basketball League team Thames Valley Tigers, who folded during the same year. Making an appearance in the ULEB Cup in 2007, the franchise was rebranded as the Surrey Heat in 2012. After the sale of the franchise by former owner Alison Reeve, the Heat were rebranded once again in September 2013 to become Surrey United. Brian McCotter
Brian McCotter (born 1984 in Belfast, Northern Ireland) is an Irish professional basketball player and currently plays for Newcastle University Knights. Brian is a product of St. Malachy's College basketball team and was named MVP in the All Ireland U19 Schools Final after hitting 29 points.
