Tromsø Techno Scene
The Tromsø techno scene is the origin of many of Norway's most important artists within electronic music. The internationally best-known names are Röyksopp, Biosphere and Bel Canto. The record label Beatservice Records and the Insomnia Festival makes Tromsø still leading in the country as of the development and promotion of the genre. History The city of Tromsø has since the early 1980s been mentioned as "the techno capital" of Norway. The first generation of the Tromsø techno scene consisted of, among others, Geir Jenssen (Bel Canto / Biosphere), Anneli Drecker (Bel Canto), Per Martinsen (Mental Overdrive), Rune Lindbæk and Bjørn Torske. A local student radio by the name Brygga Radio, including Bjørn Torske, had success with radio show Beatservice at this time. Aedena Cycle
Aedena Cycle is a former Norwegian electronic music group from Tromsø, composed of Torbjørn Brundtland and Svein Berge (from Röyksopp), Kolbjørn Lyslo and Gaute Barlindhaug. The quartet released an EP called "The Travellers' Dream EP" on R&S/Apollo in 1994. This was the first official release involving Berge and Brundtland, who later formed the world-renowned group Röyksopp. After this, Aedena Cycle was a solo project, with only Barlindhaug left from the original line up. Barlindhaug released two albums on Beatservice Records as Aedena Cycle. The album "Albite" came out in 1997 and "Cargo Cult" was released in 1999. In 2001 Barlindhaug had to change the artist name from Aedena Cycle to Kolar Goi because the creator of the American graphic novel The Aedena Cycle had the copyright to the name. Bergen Wave
The Bergen Wave (in Norwegian: ''Bergensbølgen'') is an expression often used by Norwegian media regarding the city of Bergen, Norway as a platform for the development of modern music, illustrating a period in time of a new generation of artists from Bergen "taking over" the musical landscape in Norway. About The expression was initially used in the early 1990s then re-emerged several times throughout the 2000s. The "Bergen Wave" is most definitely a name coined by the mass media (the artists themselves are normally not too fond of the term, and it has become somewhat of a cliché) but at least the frequent use of the expression during the last 20+ years says something about the strength of the music scene in the city. Tromsø Airport
Tromsø Airport ( no, Tromsø lufthavn; ) is an international airport located at Langnes in the Tromsø (city), city of Tromsø in Tromsø Municipality, Troms og Finnmark county, Norway. Situated on the western shore of the island of Tromsøya, it features a runway aligned 01/19. Alog is a Norwegian musical group. The musical duo Alog was formed in Tromsø in Troms county, Norway in 1997. Alog has been among Norway's performers of experimental electronic music. The musical duo consists of Norwegian musicians Espen Sommer Eide and Dag-Are Haugan. Stavanger
Stavanger (, , American English, US usually , ) is a city and municipalities of Norway, municipality in Norway. Gaute Barlindhaug
Gaute Barlindhaug is an electronic musician from Tromsø, Norway. He is currently known under the artist name Kolar Goi. Career As a member of the quartet Aedena Cycle, together with Torbjørn Brundtland and Svein Berge from Röyksopp, and Kolbjørn Lyslo, he was a part of the second generation of the Tromsø techno scene. In 1994, they released the acclaimed ''The Travellers’ Dream'' EP on the Belgium record label Apollo. A few compilations contributions and some rare live appearances followed, before the members went in different directions. In the years to follow, Barlindhaug contributed to notable Tromsø acts, such as Alanïa and Drum Island. In 1997, Aedena Cycle resurfaced as a solo project from Gaute Barlindhaug. Frost (Norwegian Band)
Frost is a Norwegian electronic duo consisting of Aggie Peterson and Per Martinsen. The group formed in 1997 in Tromsø, Norway with original line-up composed of Aggie Peterson and DJ Rune Lindbæk. They released their debut album ''Bedsit Theories'' in 1998. History Frost started as a project of Aggie Peterson and DJ Rune Lindbæk. They released their debut album ''Bedsit Theories'' in 1998. The album was produced with the assistance of Torbjørn Brundtland (of the duo Röyksopp) among other people. The album did well in Norway and the single " Clouds Across the Moon" (a cover of the Rah Band song) was featured on MTV in the summer of 1998. The single "Endless Love" was released in 1999. The release contained remixes by Röyksopp and the duo Illumination/Chilluminati of which Per Martinsen was part.
