Triple Bend Invitational Handicap
The Triple Bend Stakes is a Grade II American Thoroughbred horse race for horses age four years and older over a distance of seven furlongs on the dirt held at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California in June. The race currently offers a purse of $200,000. History The event was inaugurated on the 10 June 1952 as the Lakes And Flowers Handicap and was won by Intent defeating Admiral Drake with Last Round finishing in third before a crowd of 42,004. In 1956 the event was shortened to 6 furlongs. The event was increased back to its original distance of 7 furlongs in 1973. In 1979 the name was changed to Triple Bend Handicap honoring Frank McMahon's colt Triple Bend whose wins included the Santa Anita Handicap and who set a world record time of 1:19.80 for seven furlongs on dirt in winning the 1972 Los Angeles Handicap at Hollywood Park Racetrack. Drayden Van Dyke (born September 10, 1994, in Louisville, Kentucky) is a jockey in thoroughbred racing. At graded stakes races, Van Dyke has won 67 events ranging from Grade I to Grade III. Of these wins, Van Dyke has won both the Starlet Stakes and Yellow Ribbon Handicap four times. As a Breeders' Cup jockey, Van Dyke won the Turf Sprint event at the 2018 Breeders' Cup. City of Light (foaled May 7, 2014) is an American Thoroughbred racehorse who won the 2018 Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile and 2019 Pegasus World Cup in his final two starts. He also won the 2017 Malibu Stakes and 2018 Triple Bend Stakes and Oaklawn Handicap. Background City of Light was bred in Kentucky by Ann Marie Farm. He was sired by Quality Road, whose wins included the 2010 Metropolitan Handicap. Sol Kumin (born 13 May 1975) is an American business leader, Thoroughbred racehorse owner and philanthropist. In May 2018, he became the first owner since 1952 to have both a Kentucky Oaks and a Kentucky Derby winner in the same weekend. He was a co-owner of Justify; winner of the Triple Crown. Early life The oldest of three siblings, Kumin grew up in Worcester, Massachusetts before moving to Boston at the age of 10.
