''Trio'' is a studio album by British jazz bassist Steve Berry that was released by Loose Tubes Limited in 1988. Steve Berry (musician)
Steve Berry (born 24 August 1957) is a British jazz double bassist, composer and educator. Career Berry developed an interest in jazz during his fine art degree and moved to London in 1979, where he studied with Chris Laurence, Daryl Runswick and Dave Holland. He also undertook postgraduate studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. In 1984, he joined the 21-piece jazz orchestra, Loose Tubes and became one of the main composers on their three studio albums and toured all over the World. In 1988, he formed the Steve Berry Trio with Mark Lockheart on saxophones and Pete Fairclough on drums and released the album '' Trio'' on the Loose Tubes record label. He has performed with many internationally recognised jazz musicians, including Scott Hamilton, John Surman, Tal Farlow, Art Farmer, Ian Carr and Lew Tabackin. Jazz is a music genre that originated in the African-American communities of New Orleans, Louisiana in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, with its roots in blues and ragtime. Loose Tubes were a British jazz big band/orchestra active during the mid-to-late 1980s. Critically and popularly acclaimed, the band was considered to be the focal point of a 1980s renaissance in British jazz. It was the main launchpad for the careers of many future leading British jazz players including Django Bates, Iain Ballamy, Eddie Parker, Julian and Steve Argüelles, Mark Lockheart, Steve Berry, Tim Whitehead, Ashley Slater. ''The Penguin Guide to Jazz'' is a reference work containing an encyclopedic directory of jazz recordings on CD which were (at the time of publication) currently available in Europe or the United States. The first nine editions were compiled by Richard Cook and Brian Morton, two chroniclers of jazz resident in the United Kingdom. Mark Lockheart
Mark Lockheart (born 31 March 1961) is a British jazz tenor saxophonist who was a member of the Loose Tubes big band during the 1980s. Career After the demise of Loose Tubes, Lockheart formed jazz/folk quartet Perfect Houseplants with Huw Warren, Dudley Phillips, and Martin France. The band released five albums, including two with The Orlando Consort. At this time Lockheart The Scratch Band, performing his compositions. The group recorded two albums, including ''Imaginary Dances''. In 2005 Lockheart put together his "Big Idea" to record the album ''Moving Air''. In 2003, Lockheart joined the British jazz quintet Polar Bear. Oscar Pettiford
Oscar Pettiford (September 30, 1922 – September 8, 1960) was an American jazz double bassist, cellist and composer. He was one of the earliest musicians to work in the bebop idiom. Biography Pettiford was born in Okmulgee, Oklahoma, United States. His mother was Choctaw, and his father Harry "Doc" Pettiford was half Cherokee and half African American. He grew up playing in the family band in which he sang and danced before switching to piano at the age of 12, then to double bass when he was 14. He is quoted as saying he did not like the way people were playing the bass, so he developed his own way of playing it. Despite being admired by the likes of Milt Hinton at the age of 14, he gave up in 1941 as he did not believe he could make a living. Five months later, he once again met Hinton, who persuaded him to return to music.
