Trinity Episcopal Church (Columbus, Ohio)
Trinity Episcopal Church is a historic church on Capitol Square in Downtown Columbus, Ohio. It was built in 1866 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1976. The church features "The Church in the World", a stained glass window featuring Columbus landmarks and installed in 1965. Items depicted include a former Columbus flag, Ohio Stadium, the Ohio Statehouse, the LeVeque Tower, John Glenn Columbus International Airport, the Main Library and the statue of Christopher Columbus formerly at City Hall. The church's adjoining parish house was designed by Howell & Thomas and built in 1910. Another story was added to the parish house in 1976. Broad Street (Columbus, Ohio)
Broad Street is a major thoroughfare in Central Ohio, predominantly in Franklin County and Columbus. It stretches east from West Jefferson at Little Darby Creek to Pataskala. The street is considered one of Columbus's two main roads, along with High Street. Broad Street was first laid out around 1797, when Franklinton was settled. In 1812, when Columbus was founded, a new section of the street was built in the new city. The street first connected to the rest of the settled country in 1831, when the Ohio and Erie Canal reached Columbus. In 1833, the National Road was extended to Columbus, utilizing all of West Broad Street. In the mid-to-late 19th century, East Broad Street became a fashionable place for wealthy homeowners, and large mansions were built along the tree-lined street. ''Christopher Columbus'', or simply ''Columbus'', is a 1955 sculpture by Edoardo Alfieri, originally installed outside Columbus, Ohio's City Hall, in the United States. The statue was unveiled in 1955, celebrating Christopher Columbus's voyages to the New World. It was removed in July 2020, in light of the explorer's abusive relationship with indigenous Americans. Description The statue rested on and was the central feature of the Portman Plaza on the south side of City Hall adjoining West Broad Street. The bronze alloy sculpture depicts Christopher Columbus wearing a cloak and holding a rolled document. The statue measures approximately 22 × 7.75 × 5.75 ft (6.7 × 2.36 × 1.75 m) and weighs approximately 3 tons. It rested on a square stone base that measures approximately 63 ft.
