Trinidad is the larger and more populous of the two major islands of Trinidad and Tobago. The island lies off the northeastern coast of Venezuela and sits on the continental shelf of South America. It is often referred to as the southernmost island in the West Indies. With an area of , it is also the List of Caribbean islands by area, fifth largest in the West Indies. Name The original name for the island in the Arawak language, Arawaks' language was which meant "Land of the Hummingbird". Christopher Columbus renamed it ('The Island of the Holy Trinity, Trinity'), fulfilling a vow he had made before setting out on his third voyage. This has since been shortened to ''Trinidad''. Félix Juan Trinidad García (born January 10, 1973), popularly known as "Tito" Trinidad, is a Puerto Rican former professional boxer who competed from 1990 to 2008. He held multiple world championships in three weight classes and is said to be one of the greatest Puerto Rican boxers of all time. After winning five national amateur championships in Puerto Rico, Trinidad debuted as a professional when he was seventeen, and won his first world championship by defeating Maurice Blocker to win the IBF welterweight title in 1993. He held the title for 6 years, 8 months and 14 days. As his career continued, he defeated Oscar De La Hoya to win the WBC and lineal welterweight titles in 1999; Fernando Vargas to win the unified WBA and IBF light middleweight titles in 2000; and William Joppy to win the WBA middleweight title in 2001. Diego Ángel Capel Trinidad (; born 16 February 1988) is a Spanish professional footballer who plays as a left winger. He made his senior debut with Sevilla at 16, going on to appear in 173 competitive matches for the club over seven La Liga seasons (12 goals) and win four major trophies, including two UEFA Cups. Trinidad "Trina" Padilla de Sanz (June 7, 1894 in Vega Baja – April 26, 1957 in Arecibo) was a Puerto Rican writer. She was born in Vega Baja and adopted at Arecibo; she was a piano teacher, storyteller, and poet. Daughter of the doctor and poet José Gualberto Padilla, known as "El Caribe" ("The Caribbean"). Thus, Trina Padilla de Sanz was known as "La Hija del Caribe" ("The Daughter of the Caribbean"). She studied at Ruiz Arnau high school in Arecibo. At the age of 18, she married Ángel Sanz and translated to Madrid and enrolled at Real Conservatorio and took piano classes with the professor Vasco Juan María Guelbenzu. After receiving her diploma, she returned to Puerto Rico, living in Mayagüez, San Juan and finally Arecibo, where she died. Trinidad Olga Ramos Sanguino (18 July 1918 – 25 August 2005) was a Spanish cupletista, violinist, and actress known as the queen of the cuplé. Life and career She appeared singing a song in the 1940 film ''Leyenda rota'', with Juan de Orduña and Maruchi Fresno, directed by . Trinidad Núñez Quiñones (born June 13, 1948), otherwise known simply as Trino, is an artisan, artist, researcher and teacher whose work has been recognized with numerous awards in both the Durango City, city and Durango, state of Durango. Trinidad María Enríquez (5 June 1846-20 April 1891) was a Peruvian teacher and student. After completing the only education available to her, she founded a school to teach other girls and complete the necessary requirements to enter university. Appealing to the president, she was granted the right to attend if an examination proved she was adequately prepared. Passing her review, Enríquez completed courses at the National University of Saint Anthony the Abbot in Cuzco, becoming the first Peruvian woman to earn a university degree in 1878. Though she graduated, she was denied a license to practice law and fought her case through the legislature and court systems until her death in 1891. Trinidad De Leon-Roxas
Trinidad de Leon-Roxas (''née'' de Leon y Roura; October 4, 1900 – June 20, 1995) was the wife of Philippine President Manuel Roxas and the fifth First Lady of the Philippines. They were married in 1921 and had two children, Ruby and Gerardo (Gerry). A native of San Miguel, Bulacan, De León-Roxas was also a beauty pageant contestant, having been crowned Carnival Queen (Queen of the Orient) at the Manila Carnival in 1920. As the country's first lady during the post-war years, De León-Roxas got involved in various charitable organizations such as the White Cross and the Girl Scouts of the Philippines and restored the annual Malacañang Christmas gift-giving begun prior to World War II.
