Tricoryne Elatior
''Tricoryne elatior'' (common name yellow autumn-lily, yellow rush-lily) is a species of flowering plant in the family Asphodelaceae, native to Australia, and found in all its states and territories. Description ''Tricoryne elatior'' is a rhizomatous perennial herb, with fibrous roots, It grows to a height of 10-40 cm but sometimes grows to 1 m. The leaves are linear, 5–10 cm by 1–3.5 mm wide, and usually glabrous. The flowering axis is terete, and has a smooth surface although sometimes there are scabrous hairs at the axis base. The umbels carry 2–10 flowers on pedicels which are about 1.5–6 mm long. The outer tepals are oblong, acute, three-veined, and 6–14 mm by 1.5–3 mm, while the inner tepals are elliptic, obtuse, three-veined, and 5–10 mm by 3–4 mm wide. The tepals twist spirally after flowering and later fall. There are six stamens which are attached to the base of the perianth. The filaments are 3–6 mm long with tufts of clavate hairs below the a ...

Asphodelaceae Genera
Asphodelaceae is a family of flowering plants in the order Asparagales. Such a family has been recognized by most taxonomists, but the circumscription has varied widely. In its current circumscription in the APG IV system, it includes about 40 genera and 900 known species. The type genus is ''Asphodelus''. The family has a wide but scattered distribution throughout the tropics and temperate zones. Many of the species are cultivated as ornamentals. A few are grown commercially for cut flowers. Two species of '' Aloe'' are grown for their leaf sap, which has medicinal and cosmetic uses. ''Xanthorrhoea'' is endemic to Australia. Description Members of the Asphodelaceae are diverse, with few characters uniting the three subfamilies currently recognized. The presence of anthraquinones is one common character. The flowers (the inflorescence) are typically borne on a leafless stalk ( scape) which arises from a basal rosette of leaves. The individual flowers have jointed stalks (p ...

Robert Brown (botanist, Born 1773)
Robert Brown (21 December 1773 – 10 June 1858) was a Scottish botanist and paleobotanist who made important contributions to botany largely through his pioneering use of the microscope. His contributions include one of the earliest detailed descriptions of the cell nucleus and cytoplasmic streaming; the observation of Brownian motion; early work on plant pollination and fertilisation, including being the first to recognise the fundamental difference between gymnosperms and angiosperms; and some of the earliest studies in palynology. He also made numerous contributions to plant taxonomy, notably erecting a number of plant families that are still accepted today; and numerous Australian plant genera and species, the fruit of his exploration of that continent with Matthew Flinders. Early life Robert Brown was born in Montrose on 21 December 1773, in a house that existed on the site where Montrose Library currently stands. He was the son of James Brown, a minister in the ...

Australian Plant Name Index
The Australian Plant Name Index (APNI) is an online database of all published names of Australian vascular plants. It covers all names, whether current names, synonyms or invalid names. It includes bibliographic and typification details, information from the Australian Plant Census including distribution by state, links to other resources such as specimen collection maps and plant photographs, and the facility for notes and comments on other aspects. History Originally the brainchild of Nancy Tyson Burbidge, it began as a four-volume printed work consisting of 3,055 pages, and containing over 60,000 plant names. Compiled by Arthur Chapman, it was part of the Australian Biological Resources Study (ABRS). In 1991 it was made available as an online database, and handed over to the Australian National Botanic Gardens. Two years later, responsibility for its maintenance was given to the newly formed Centre for Plant Biodiversity Research. Scope Recognised by Australian herbaria as the ...
