Tricity Derby
The "Tricity Derby" ( pl, Derby Trójmiasta) is the name given to describe football matches between Arka Gdynia and Lechia Gdańsk, the two biggest teams in the Tricity area. The derby splits the Tricity area, with Arka representing Gdynia, the northern part of the Tricity, while Lechia represent Gdańsk which covers the southern part of the Tricity. The first meeting between the two clubs was in 1964, and has been contested a total of 41 times since then. Despite both teams having featured in the Ekstraklasa throughout their history, the first meeting between the two teams in the top flight happened in 2008. Lechia have been the most successful of the two teams, winning 17 of the contests compared to Arka's 11. Tricity, or Tri-City ( pl, Trójmiasto; , german: Dreistadt; , csb, Trzëgard; ) is a metropolitan area in Pomeranian Voivodeship, Poland, consisting of three contiguous coastal cities in Pomerelia forming a row on the coastline of the Gdańsk Bay, Baltic Sea, namely the cities of Gdańsk, Gdynia, and Sopot, along with other cities and towns in their vicinity. In 2021, the three core cities were inhabited by 749 786 people, while the Tricity together with its metropolitan area had a combined population of between 1 and 1.5 million, depending on the definition of the boundaries of the latter. The designation has been used informally or semi-formally only. A strategic cooperation declaration, the Tricity Charter (Polish: ''Karta Trójmiasta''), was signed by the three city mayors on 28 March 2007. Janusz Charczuk
Janusz Charczuk (born 20 February 1941) is a former Polish footballer who played as a forward spending his entire senior career with Lechia Gdańsk. Biography Born in Sokal, near Lviv in what was occupied Poland in 1941 his family found themselves moving to Ustka after the second world war due to the relocation of Poles. After training with the youth teams for Stal Ustka and Czarni Słupsk he found himself joining the Lechia Gdańsk academy when he started to study architecture at the Gdańsk University of Technology in 1959. He made his Lechia debut on 13 March 1960 against Górnik Zabrze playing a total of 15 times in his first season. In 1964 Lechia played Arka Gdynia for the first time in the Tricity Derby with Charczuk being the first ever goalscorer in the derby in a 2-1 win for Lechia. Bogdan Adamczyk
Bogdan Adamczyk (born 27 November 1935) is a former Polish footballer. Adamczyk spent the majority of his career playing for Lechia Gdańsk, with the exceptions of playing two seasons with Zawisza Bydgoszcz, and two years in Australia playing for Polonia Sydney. Senior career In 1954 Adamczyk made his Lechia debut against Górnik Zabrze, in the first game of the season. In his second professional season Adamczyk was playing in the top flight with Lechia, and was playing regularly for the team. He scored his first Ekstraklasa goal against Wisła Kraków, his third game of playing in the highest division. Piotr Wiśniewski
Piotr Wiśniewski (born 11 August 1982) is a retired Polish footballer. All four of his teams were based in the Pomeranian area, with his longest and most notable spell with Lechia Gdańsk from 2005 until 2017 when he retired from professional football. Marcin Kaczmarek (born 2 January 1974) is a Polish football manager and former player, most recently in charge of Ekstraklasa club Lechia Gdańsk. He was previously a pundit and commentator for Polsat Sport. During his career, Kaczmarek played in Ekstraklasa for Pogoń Szczecin and GKS Bełchatów, making a total of 97 appearances in Poland's top division.
