''Trichoderma asperellum'' Samuels, Lieckf & Nirenberg Samuels, G.J.; Lieckfeldt, E.; Nirenberg, H.I. (1999) ''Trichoderma asperellum'', a new species with warted conidia, and redescription of ''T. viride''. ''Sydowia'' 51(1):71–88 is a species of fungus in the family Hypocreaceae. It can be distinguished from ''T. viride'' by molecular and phenotypic characteristics. The most important molecular characteristics are divergent ITS-1 and 28S sequences and RFLP's of the endochitinase gene. Main phenotypic characters are conidial ornamentation and arrangement and branching of the conidiophores. Important Isolates This species has been used commercially and experimentally as a biopesticide for plant disease control: some commercial isolates were previously placed in '' T. harzianum''. Hypocreaceae
The Hypocreaceae are a family (biology), family within the class Sordariomycetes. Species of Hypocreaceae are usually recognized by their brightly colored, perithecial Ascocarp, ascomata, typically yellow, orange or red. The family was proposed by Giuseppe De Notaris in 1844. ''Trichoderma harzianum'' is a fungus that is also used as a fungicide. It is used for foliar application, seed treatment and soil treatment for suppression of fungal pathogens causing various fungal plant diseases. Commercial biotechnological products such as 3Tac have been useful for treatment of '' Botrytis'', ''Fusarium'' and ''Penicillium'' sp. It is also used for manufacturing enzymes.
