Triathlon
A triathlon is an endurance multisport race consisting of Swimming (sport), swimming, Cycle sport, cycling, and running over various distances. Triathletes compete for fastest overall completion time, racing each segment sequentially with the time transitioning between the disciplines included. The word is of Greek language, Greek origin, from τρεῖς or ''treis'' (three) and ἆθλος or ''athlos'' (competition). The sport originated in the late 1970s in Southern California as sports clubs and individuals developed the sport. Sarah Haskins (triathlete)
Sarah Haskins (born March 13, 1981) is an American triathlete from St. Louis, Missouri. She competed in triathlon at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing and is the 2011 Pan American Games Gold medalist. Education After graduating from Parkway South High School, Haskins attended the University of Tulsa from 1999 to 2003. She obtained an athletic scholarship for cross country and track and had several All-Conference finishes during her career there. Haskins graduated in May 2003 with a degree in elementary education and a minor in mathematics. Triathlon career Haskins began competing in triathlons during the summer of 2003 after graduating college and turned pro in 2004. Haskins has a strong swimming background, she was swimming competitively at age five and swimming year-round by the age of nine years. Julie Ertel (born Julie Swail on December 27, 1972) is an Americans, American water polo player who was the team captain of the US Women's National Team that captured the silver medal at the 2000 Summer Olympics. She competed in the triathlon at the 2008 Summer Olympics taking 19th place crossing the finish line in a time of 2:02:39.22, 4:11.56 behind the gold medalist. Swail is a graduate of the University of California, San Diego, and received an M.Ed. in Physical Education from Azusa Pacific University. Sheila Christine Taormina (born March 18, 1969) is an American former athlete who competed at four Olympics (1996, 2000, 2004, 2008), and was the first woman to qualify for the Olympics in three different sports (swimming, triathlon and modern pentathlon). At the 1996 Summer Olympics, she earned a gold medal as a member of the winning U.S. team in the women's 4×200-meter freestyle relay. Jill Savege (born March 17, 1974) is a Canadian triathlete. Born in Toronto, Ontario, Savege now lives in Thousand Oaks, California. A graduate of Simon Fraser University, she was a swimmer while a student and only turned to triathlon after graduation. Sharon Donnelly (born July 29, 1967 in Toronto, Ontario) is an athlete from Canada, who competed in triathlon (1.5-km Swimming (sport), swim, 40-km Bicycle, cycle, 10-km run). Donnelly graduated from the Royal Military College of Canada in 1990, (17324) with a B.A. (Commerce), and served as an Army Logistics Officer for 5 years. She won the gold medal at the 1999 Pan American Games in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.
