The Tri-Nation Series (known as the Hero MotoCorp, Hero Tri-Nation Series for sponsorship reasons) is a 3-team association football tournament organised by the All India Football Federation (All India Football Federation, AIFF). It was launched as a replacement for Nehru Cup with the first edition held in 2017 Hero Tri-Nation Series, 2017, and was won by India. The tournament is organized by the All India Football Federation, AIFF as an invitational football tournament for the preparation of India national football team, senior men team's for competitive football tournaments. The All India Football Federation (AIFF) is the national governing body of football in India. It is a member of FIFA, the international governing body of football and affiliated to Asian Football Confederation. It is affiliated to Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports of Government of India and a member of South Asian Football Federation. The 2023 Hero Tri-Nation Series (also 2023 Hero Tri-Nation International Football Tournament) was the second edition of the Tri-Nation Series, a 3-team association football tournament held at the Khuman Lampak Main Stadium in the Indian city of Imphal between the 22nd and 28th of March 2023. The tournament was organized by the AIFF as part of the senior men team's preparation for 2023 AFC Asian Cup. India won the tournament with a 2–0 win over Kyrgyzstan on the final matchday. The Nehru Cup was an international association football tournament organised by the All India Football Federation (AIFF), named after the first Prime Minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru. The tournament was organized by the AIFF as part of the senior men team's preparation for the third round of 2019 AFC Asian Cup qualification matches. The tournament naming rights were purchased by Hero MotoCorp which also sponsors the national team. The tournament received criticism from at least one media outlet, citing that the ₹3.7 cr spent to organize the tournament was significantly more than the entire yearly budget for the women's national team.
