Tri-County Conference (Northern Indiana)
The Tri-County Conference was a league that ran from 1950 to 1965, and is considered a direct forerunner to the Mid-Indiana Conference. The league began in 1950 as the Howard-Miami Conference, as the three schools left from the post-consolidation Howard County Conference joined with three schools from Miami County. The conference changed its name to the TCC when Swayzee and Sweetser, from Grant County joined. When school consolidation forced the conference to look outside its footprint to find similar-sized schools, in 1965 it became the current MIC. This should not be confused with conferences of the same name based in the southern and western portions of the state. Mid-Indiana Conference
The Mid-Indiana Conference, or MIC, was a high school athletic conference which was located in northcentral Indiana, USA. This conference served many high schools located in Cass, Hamilton, Howard, and Miami Counties. The conference dissolved at the end on the 2014-15 academic school year. History The Mid-Indiana Conference can trace its roots back to the late 1940s, when school consolidation reduced the Howard County Conference from nine schools to three in the matter of three years. These three remaining schools joined three nearby schools from Miami County and began the new Howard-Miami Conference. The conference renamed itself the Tri-County Conference in 1955, as two schools from Grant County joined. Further school consolidation reduced membership to four schools by 1965, forcing the conference to reach out of its footprint to find similar-sized schools. Mississinewa Valley Conference
The Mississinewa Valley Conference was an IHSAA-sanctioned conference based in East Central Indiana that lasted between 1952 and 1977. The conference started out as a conference for larger rural schools as a way to provide a higher level of competition than their respective County Conferences typically provided. The conference was stable for its first decade, but consolidation and more regionally based conferences with schools of similar sizes had schools defecting the MVC. The conference ended in 1977, with three schools forming the Classic Athletic Conference, and one team each joining the Mid-Eastern and Mid-Indiana conferences. Sweetser, Indiana
Sweetser is a town in Franklin, Pleasant and Richland townships, Grant County, Indiana, United States. The population was 1,229 at the 2010 census. Geography Sweetser is located at (40.569731, -85.766972) on State Road 18 between the town of Converse and the city of Marion. According to the 2010 census, Sweetser has a total area of , of which (or 99.7%) is land and (or 0.3%) is water. Running through the edge of Sweetser is a small body of water, or creek, known as Pipe Creek. Pipe Creek is one of the sites that can be seen from the Sweetser Switch Trail. Swayzee, Indiana
Swayzee is a town in Sims Township, Grant County, Indiana, United States. The population was 981 at the 2010 census. On its welcome sign, Swayzee claims to be "the only Swayzee in the world." This motto is based on a story about a postcard sent by a serviceman overseas during World War II, which although being addressed only to "Swayzee", with no mention of Indiana or any other information, was still said to have been successfully delivered. Hoosier Athletic Conference
The Hoosier Athletic Conference is a ten-member IHSAA-Sanctioned conference located within Benton, Cass, Hamilton, Howard, Jasper, Tippecanoe, Tipton and White counties. The conference first began in 1947, and has been in constant competition except for the 1997-98 school year, when membership dropped to three schools. The conference added four schools from the folding Mid-Indiana Conference in 2015. Russiaville () is a town in Honey Creek Township, Howard County, Indiana, United States. The population was 1,094 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Kokomo Metropolitan Statistical Area. Russiaville was incorporated sometime between the 1860 and 1870 US Census. Etymology The town was named for Jean Baptiste de Richardville (whose father's surname was Richerville), a Miami chief of French-Miami descent who had relations with the United States government in treaty making in the early nineteenth century. Through the French pronunciation of "Ri-shar-ville," the name was gradually corrupted and changed to the current spelling; it has been pronounced "Roo-sha-ville" through much of its history. Northwestern High School is a public high school located approximately 4.5 miles northwest of the city limits of Kokomo, Indiana, United States. The building houses grades 9–12 and also functions as the primary athletic building. History Northwestern High School was founded in 1948 as the result of a merge between Clay, Ervin, and Howard High Schools, during a period known as the "Consolidation Boom" when many other schools were also being consolidated.
