Trevor Perrett
Trevor John Perrett (born 2 August 1941 in Kingaroy, Queensland) is a former Australian politician. He was a member of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland from 1988 to 1998, representing the electorate of Barambah. Perrett was elected at the 1988 Barambah state by-election as the Citizens Electoral Council candidate. In December 1988 he switched to the Nationals. He represented the seat until his defeat by One Nation candidate Dorothy Pratt at the 1998 state election. Electoral District Of Barambah
Barambah was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Queensland from 1950 to 2001. The district was based in the South Burnett region. It was the seat of long-serving Premier, Sir Joh Bjelke-Petersen. Barambah was created in 1950, essentially as a reconfiguring of the old seat of Nanango. Fittingly, when Barambah was abolished in 2001, it was replaced by a recreated Nanango. The seat was safely conservative for its entire existence. However, it fell to the Citizens Electoral Council at the 1988 by-election called after Bjelke-Petersen was forced out of politics–the only seat ever won by that party at the state or federal level in Australia. The winner of that by-election, Trevor Perrett, joined the National Party later in 1988. He held the seat until 1998, when Dorothy Pratt won it as part of One Nation's breakthrough in Queensland. Rob Borbidge
Robert Edward Borbidge (born 12 August 1954) is a former Australian politician who served as the 35th Premier of Queensland from 1996 to 1998. He was the leader of the Queensland branch of the National Party, and was the last member of that party to serve as premier. His term as premier was contemporaneous with the rise of the One Nation Party of Pauline Hanson, which would see him lose office within two years. Early life Borbidge was born in the town of Ararat, Victoria in 1954. His parents owned a sheep property and were attracted to Queensland by Premier Joh Bjelke-Petersen's abolition of death duties, moving to the Gold Coast. He attended The Southport School and worked in his family motel business. 1998 Queensland State Election
Elections were held in the Australian state of Queensland on 13 June 1998 to elect the 89 members of the state's Legislative Assembly. The result of the election was a second consecutive hung parliament, with the Labor Party forming minority government after receiving the support of independent Peter Wellington. This election was the first in which One Nation supporters were elected to state Parliament, with the controversial party winning 11 seats. With nearly 23% of the vote, One Nation gained a higher percentage of the vote than any other third party (i.e. not Labor or Coalition) at the state or territory level since Federation. Pauline Hanson's One Nation (PHON or ONP), also known as One Nation or One Nation Party, is a right-wing populist political party in Australia. It is led by Pauline Hanson. One Nation had electoral success in the late 1990s, before suffering an extended decline after 2001. The Legislative Assembly of Queensland is the sole chamber of the unicameral Parliament of Queensland established under the Constitution of Queensland.
