Tres Islas is a locality in Cerro Largo Department in Uruguay. It is the head of the Municipality of Tres Islas. Geography Tres Islas is located in the western part of the department of Cerro Largo, on the hill of the same name, north of the Quebracho Stream, and next to a secondary road that joins it with Route 7. Uruguay consists of 19 departments (''departamentos''). Each department has a legislature called a Departmental Board. The ''Intendente'' is the department's chief executive. History The first division of the Republic into six departments occurred on 27 January 1816. In February of the same year, two more departments were formed, and in 1828 one more was added. When the First Constitution was signed in 1830, there were nine departments. These were the departments of Montevideo, Maldonado, Canelones, San José, Colonia, Soriano, Paysandú, Durazno and Cerro Largo. Cerro Largo Department () is a department of Uruguay. Its capital is Melo. It is located in the east of the country, bordering Brazil to its northeast with Yaguaron River as the natural border, Treinta y Tres Department to its south, Durazno Department to its west and the departments of Tacuarembó and Rivera to its northwest with Negro River as its natural border with them. Municipalities Of Uruguay
The Uruguayan departments are subdivided into municipalities and, as of 2022, there are 125 municipalities. This second level administrative division system was created by Law No. 18567 of 13 September 2009 and the first municipalities were created (or converted from Local Boards in the previous system) in March 2010. Uruguay's calling code is +598. Since 2010, national long distance calling was eliminated, thus there are no area codes in each city. Landline telephony ANTEL (Spanish abbreviation for National Administration of Telecommunications) is Uruguay's state-owned company for telecommunications. Previously in Uruguay, phone numbers used to have between 4 and 7 digits. To make a local phone call, you only had to dial those digits. To make a call between two cities from different departments, you had to dial zero, plus area code, plus phone number. As from August 29, 2010, all phone numbers have 8 digits, according to the new National Numbering Plan. Zero prior to area code was eliminated. Fraile Muerto is a town in the Cerro Largo Department of eastern Uruguay. Its name means "Dead Friar". Location It is located on Route 7, around west-southwest of Melo. History It was founded on 3 January 1908. Its original name was "Fructuoso Mazziotta", known also as "Wenceslao Silveira". On 17 July 1918 it was renamed to "Fraile Muerto" and its status was elevated to "Pueblo" (village) by the Act of Ley Nº 6.195 and then raised to "Villa" (town) on 19 December 1957 by the Act of Ley Nº 12.478. Melo, Uruguay
Melo () is the capital city of the Cerro Largo Department of north-eastern Uruguay. As of the census of 2011, it is the ninth most populated city of the country. Location It is located at the center of the department, on the intersection of Route 7 with Route 8, south of Aceguá and the border with Brazil.
