Trent Giambrone
Trent Joseph Giambrone (born December 20, 1993) is an American professional baseball infielder who is a free agent. He has previously played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Chicago Cubs. Amateur career Giambrone attended Grace King High School in Metairie, Louisiana. He was drafted out of high school by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 30th round of the 2012 MLB draft, but did not sign and instead attended Jones County Junior College in Ellisville, Mississippi to play college baseball for two seasons. He won the MACJC State Championship game with Jones County in 2014. Giambrone then transferred to Delta State University where he played two seasons for the Statesmen. He hit .386/.433/.601/1.034 with 9 home runs and 52 RBI during his senior season in 2016. Giambrone was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the 25th round of the 2016 MLB draft and signed with them for a $1,000 signing bonus. The Iowa Cubs are a Minor League Baseball team of the International League and the Triple-A (baseball), Triple-A affiliate of the Chicago Cubs. They are located in Des Moines, Iowa, and are named for their Major League Baseball (MLB) affiliate. The Cubs play their home games at Principal Park, which opened in 1992. The Mesa Solar Sox are a baseball team that plays in the East Division of the Arizona Fall League. They play their home games in Mesa, Arizona, at Sloan Park, which is also the spring training facility of the Chicago Cubs. The Arizona Fall League (AFL) is an off-season sports league owned and operated by Major League Baseball (MLB) which operates during the autumn in Arizona, United States, at six different baseball complexes. Arizona Fall League rosters are filled by many of the top prospects in Minor League Baseball (MiLB) who are assigned by their parent clubs. Structure The six teams of the AFL are organized in two three-team divisions. The Tennessee Smokies are a Minor League Baseball team based in Kodak, Tennessee, a suburb of Knoxville. The team, which plays in the Southern League, is the Double-A affiliate of the Chicago Cubs. The Eugene Emeralds (nicknamed the Ems) are a Minor League Baseball team in the northwest United States, based in Eugene, Oregon. The Emeralds are members of the Northwest League and are affiliated with the San Francisco Giants. Eugene plays their home games at PK Park. A signing bonus or sign-on bonus is a sum of money paid to a new employee (including a professional sports person) by a company as an incentive to join that company. They are often given as a way of making a compensation package more attractive to the employee (e.g., if the annual salary is lower than they desire). The 2016 Major League Baseball (MLB) First-Year Player Draft began on June 9, 2016, to assign amateur baseball players to MLB teams.
