Trees Field
Trees Field is a facility consisting of athletic fields located at the upper campus of the University of Pittsburgh located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The facility contained both a baseball and softball fields, which were often individually referred to as "Trees Field", as well as two adjacent artificial turf practice fields. Prior to the opening of the Petersen Sports Complex in 2010, the baseball and softball stadiums served as the home fields of the university's Panthers college baseball and softball teams and had listed capacities of 500 spectators. Prior to 1999, Trees Field had undergone greater than $500,000 in renovations that included the installation of an AstroTurf infield, lights, and the two AstroTurf practice fields. Although they still exist, it is planned that baseball and softball fields will serve as the site of a new track and field facility. Track and field is a sport that includes athletic contests based on running, jumping, and throwing skills. Pitt Band
The University of Pittsburgh Varsity Marching Band, or Pitt Band, is the college marching band at the University of Pittsburgh. The band numbers over 300 students consisting of instrumentalists, a majorette squad known as the Golden Girls, a color guard, and the drumline. The band was founded in 1911 and has won numerous awards over the years. All members of the band must pass an audition in order to join. The band is currently housed in Trees Hall; however, in 2020, the Pitt Athletic Department announced its "Victory Heights" initiative, part of the campus master plan which includes a new marching band facility slated to open in 2024. Pittsburgh Panthers softball is the NCAA Division I intercollegiate softball program of the University of Pittsburgh, often referred to as "Pitt", located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The Pitt softball team competes in the Atlantic Coast Conference and plays their home games at Vartabedian Field in the Petersen Sports Complex.
