Treaty United
Treaty United Football Club is an Irish association football club based in Limerick. The club was founded in 2020 following the demise of Limerick F.C. and began playing in the League of Ireland in 2021. They play their home matches at Markets Field, the same ground as their predecessors. History Name The name of the club stems from Limerick's nickname as "The Treaty county", itself a reference to the Treaty of Limerick of 1691, the document which brought an end to the Williamite War in Ireland. Formation of the club Following the liquidation of Limerick F.C. in 2019, the idea of a new team in Limerick arose. At first, it was to be called Limerick United but was forced to be changed due to threat of legal action from Limerick FC, because they had previously had that name. Markets Field
Markets Field is a stadium in Garryowen, Limerick, Ireland. It has been redeveloped since 5 June 2015 when it hosted a soccer match between Limerick F.C., Limerick FC and Drogheda United F.C., Drogheda United in the League of Ireland Premier Division. It has been graded a UEFA Category Two stadium with a capacity of around 4,500. The ground has hosted underage international fixtures in 2015 and 2021. The EA Sports Cup final between Limerick FC and St Patrick's Athletic was played in Markets Field on Saturday, 17 September 2016. Joel Coustrain
Joel Coustrain (born 22 January 1996) is an Irish professional footballer who plays for Treaty United in the League of Ireland First Division. Club career Born in Limerick, Coustrain first played with Corbally United in Limerick and signed for the Sheffield United F.C. Academy in 2013. In 2015 Coustrain signed a pro contract with Sheffield United. In 2016 Coustrain moved to Scottish club Raith Rovers on a free transfer. Coustrain made six appearances for Raith during the 2016/17 season, but was released from his contract in March 2017. He signed for League of Ireland First Division club Athlone Town ahead of the 2020 season. On 27 February 2021, it was announced that Coustrain had signed for newly formed club Treaty United in his hometown of Limerick ahead of their 2021 League of Ireland First Division campaign, their first ever season in football. Enda Curran is an Irish professional footballer who plays as a striker for the League of Ireland First Division team, Treaty United. He has also played for other League of Ireland sides, such as Derry City, Galway United, Longford Town and Athlone Town. Club career Curran started his career at local Galway side Mervue United. In his debut season for the club in the 2010 League of Ireland First Division he played 7 games and scored 3 goals as the club narrowly avoided the relegation play-offs. Garryowen, Limerick
Garryowen () is a neighbourhood in Limerick, Republic of Ireland, Ireland. The word Garryowen is a transliteration of the Irish Garraí Eoin - "the garden of Owen" - and relates to the association in the 12th century between St John's Church and the Knights Templar whose house in Limerick was dedicated to John the Baptist. In medieval times Garryowen was located just outside the Irishtown area of the walled city of Limerick. The citadel (located in the grounds of St. John's Hospital, Limerick, St. John's Hospital) was the Irishtown's main fortification.
