Traveler Mountain is a mountain located in Piscataquis County, Maine, Piscataquis County, Maine, in Baxter State Park. The Traveler, is the eighth-most topographic prominence, prominent in Maine. Subsidiary peaks include the Peak of the Ridges North and South Traveler Mountain and , respectively. The Traveler stands within the drainage basin, watershed of the Penobscot River, which drains into Penobscot Bay on the coast of Maine. The east side of the Traveler drains into the East Branch Penobscot River, East Branch of the Penobscot River. The north and west sides of the Traveler drain by several brooks into Trout Brook, then into Grand Lake Matagamon, the source of the East Branch of the Penobscot. New England Fifty Finest
The New England Fifty Finest is a list of mountains in New England, used in the mountaineering sport of peak bagging. The list comprises the 50 summits with the highest topographic prominence — a peak's height above the lowest contour which encloses that peak and no higher peak. Piscataquis County is a county located in the U.S. state of Maine. As of the 2020 census, its population was 16,800, making it Maine's least-populous county. Its county seat is Dover-Foxcroft. The county was incorporated on March 23, 1838, taken from the western part of Penobscot County and the eastern part of Somerset County. It is named for an Abenaki word meaning "branch of the river" or "at the river branch." It is located at the geographic center of Maine. Baxter State Park
Baxter State Park is a large wilderness area permanently preserved as a state park in Northeast Piscataquis, Piscataquis County in north-central Maine, United States. It is in the North Maine Woods region and borders the Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument on the east. The park was established by 28 donations of land, in trust, from park donor Percival P. Baxter between the years of 1931 and 1962, eventually creating a park of over in size. Baxter Park is not part of the Maine State Park system. Sole governance is provided by the Baxter State Park Authority, consisting of the Maine Attorney General, the Maine Commissioner of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, and the Director of the Maine Forest Service. In topography, prominence (also referred to as autonomous height, relative height, and shoulder drop in US English, and drop or relative height in British English) measures the height of a mountain or hill's summit relative to the lowest contour line encircling it but containing no higher summit within it.
