Transport Workers' Union NKV
The Dutch Catholic Union of Transport Personnel ( nl, Nederlandse Katholieke Bond van Vervoerspersoneel, KBV), also known as "Sint Raphaël", was a trade union representing workers in the transport industry in the Netherlands. The union was founded in 1903, as the Dutch Roman Catholic Union of Railway and Tramway Personnel, at a conference in Tilburg. By 1910, it had 4,000 members. From 1925, it was affiliated to the Roman Catholic Workers' Federation. In 1941, the Nazi occupiers ordered the union to come under their control, but the members instead dissolved it. The union was re-established in 1945, affiliating to the Catholic Workers' Movement. Around thie time, it absorbed small unions representing workers at Van Gend & Loos, and KLM. As a result, it renamed itself as the KBV. From 1963, the union was affiliated to the Dutch Catholic Trade Union Federation (NKV). Tilburg () is a city and municipality in the Netherlands, in the southern province of North Brabant. Van Gend & Loos
Van Gend & Loos was a Dutch distribution company. It was established in 1809, and was purchased by DHL in 2003. History Van Gend & Loos was established by the Antwerp-based innkeeper and carriage driver Jan-Baptist van Gend. He had married a woman from the Loos family in 1796. When Van Gend's brother-in-law Petrus Josephus Loos died in 1809, his diligence company was merged with Van Gend's company to form Van Gend & Loos. The ''De Algemeene Postwagen Onderneming J.B. van Gend & Loos'' (General Postal Carriage Company J.B. van Gend & Loos) gradually expanded its network of diligence services, to transport passengers, goods and money. The company remained active in the Low Countries (and beyond) when Belgium became independent from the Netherlands in 1830. The Federation of Dutch Trade Unions ( nl, Federatie Nederlandse Vakbeweging, FNV) is a national trade union centre in the Netherlands. In addition to member unions, workers in many sectors can join the FNV directly. History The FNV was founded in 1976 from the merger of the Dutch Catholic Trade Union Federation (NKV) and the social-democratic Dutch Confederation of Trade Unions (NVV). The Protestant Christian National Trade Union Federation (CNV) originally also participated in the talks, but it refused to fully merge into a new union. The federation was founded because of declining membership, due to depillarisation and increasing political polarisation between left and right. The Dutch Transport Workers' Union ( nl, Nederlandse Bond van Vervoerspersoneel, NBV) was a trade union representing workers in the transport industry in the Netherlands. The union was established in 1956, when the Dutch Transport Workers' Association merged with the Central Union of Workers in the Transport Industry. Like both its predecessors, the union affiliated to the Dutch Confederation of Trade Unions (NVV). The General Union of Aviation Workers joined in 1961, followed in 1969 by the fishing section of the General Union of Seafarers. In 1964, the union had 45,534 members. The union was founded in 1967, when the recently-founded General Association of Seafarers merged with the Central Organisation of Sailors and Fishermen.
