Transfiguration Of Jesus
In the New Testament, the Transfiguration of Jesus is an event where Jesus is transfigured and becomes radiant in glory upon a mountain. The Synoptic Gospels (, , ) describe it, and the Second Epistle of Peter also refers to it (). In these accounts, Jesus and three of his apostles, Peter, James, and John, go to a mountain (later referred to as the Mount of Transfiguration) to pray. On the mountaintop, Jesus begins to shine with bright rays of light. Then the Old Testament figures Moses and Elijah appear next to him and he speaks with them. Both figures had eschatological roles: they symbolize the Law and the prophets, respectively. Jesus is then called "Son" by the voice of God the Father, as in the Baptism of Jesus. Many Christian traditions, including the Eastern Orthodox, Catholic Church, Lutheran and Anglican churches, commemorate the event in the Feast of the Transfiguration, a major festival. In Greek Orthodoxy, the event is called the ''metamorphosis''. Significanc ...

Transfiguration (Raphael)
''The Transfiguration'' is the last painting by the Italian High Renaissance master Raphael. Cardinal Giulio de Medici – who later became Pope Clement VII (in office: 1523–1534) – commissioned the work, conceived as an altarpiece for Narbonne Cathedral in France; Raphael worked on it in the years preceding his death in 1520. The painting exemplifies Raphael's development as an artist and the culmination of his career. Unusually for a depiction of the Transfiguration of Jesus in Christian art, the subject is combined with the next episode from the Gospels (the healing of a possessed boy) in the lower part of the painting. The work is now in the Pinacoteca Vaticana in the Vatican City. From the late 16th century until the early 20th century, various commentators regarded it as the most famous oil painting in the world. History of the painting By December 1517, the latest date of commission, Cardinal Giulio de Medici, cousin to Pope Leo X (1513–1521), was also the Pope' ...

Feast Of The Transfiguration
The Feast of the Transfiguration is celebrated by various Christian communities in honor of the transfiguration of Jesus. The origins of the feast are less than certain and may have derived from the dedication of three basilicas on Mount Tabor.''Festival icons for the Christian year'' by John Baggley 2000 pages 58–60 The feast was present in various forms by the 9th century, and in the Western Church was made a universal feast on 6 August by Pope Callixtus III to commemorate the raising of the siege of Belgrade (1456). In the Syriac Orthodox, Malankara Orthodox, Revised Julian calendars within Eastern Orthodox Church, Eastern Orthodoxy, Roman Catholic, Catholic, Old Catholic, and Anglican churches, the Feast of the Transfiguration is observed on 6 August. In the Armenian Apostolic Church, the Feast of the Transfiguration is observed on the fourteenth Sunday after Easter. In some Lutheran traditions preceding the reforms to the liturgy in the 1970s, the 6th of August was also ob ...

Transfiguration Altarpiece (Perugino)
The Transfiguration Altarpiece is an altarpiece of the Transfiguration of Jesus by Perugino, dating to 1517 and now in the Galleria Nazionale dell'Umbria in Perugia. It was probably produced for Santa Maria dei Servi church in Perugia, where it remained until 1542. This church was one of the most notable in the city and housed the chapels of the Baglioni family and other notable families in the city. It was demolished in the 1540s to make way for the moat of the Rocca Paolina and the Servites moved to the church of Santa Maria Nuova with their large collection of artworks, including ''Transfiguration'', which was moved into that church's Graziani chapel, where it stayed until moving to its present home in 1863. The upper register shows Christ standing on a cloud in a contrapposto pose within a double mandorla and a ring of seraphim. Beside him are Moses and Elijah, kneeling on the same cloud. In the lower register are the apostles John (kneeling), Peter and James (to the right). ...

Transfiguration (Bellini, Venice)
The Transfiguration'' is a 1454–1460 painting of the Gospel episode the Transfiguration of Jesus by Giovanni Bellini, now in the Museo Correr in Venice. Andrea Mantegna was staying in the city of Venice at this time and his influence on Bellini was still strong at this time, as can be seen in this work. A fake set of initials in the lower right hand corner even led it to be misattributed to Mantegna for a time. Its provenance is unknown before 1830 since by the time he left it to Venice that year Teodoro Correr had destroyed all the documents relating to its previous history and ownership. Pierluigi De Vecchi ed Elda Cerchiari, I tempi dell'arte, volume 2, Bompiani, Milano 1999. It shows the Transfiguration on Mount Tabor, with Elijah and Moses flanking Christ; below them are the disciples Peter, James and John blinded by the vision. Transfiguration (Harry Potter)
In J. K. Rowling's '' Harry Potter'' series, magic is depicted as a supernatural force that can be used to override the usual laws of nature. Many fictional magical creatures exist in the series, while ordinary creatures also sometimes exhibit magical properties. Magical objects are also described. Witches and wizards refer to the rest of the population, who are generally unaware of magic, as "Muggles" in the United Kingdom and "No-Maj" in the United States. In humans, magic or the lack thereof is an inborn attribute. It is usually inherited, carried on "dominant resilient genes". Magic is the norm for the children of magical couples and less common in those of Muggles. Exceptions exist: those unable to do magic who are born to magical parents are known as Squibs, whereas a witch or wizard born to Muggle parents is known as a Muggle-born, or by the derogatory term "Mudblood". While Muggle-borns are quite common, Squibs are extremely rare. Rowling based many magical element ...
