Tranmere Rovers F.C., Tranmere Rovers Football Club is an English association football club based in Birkenhead, Wirral Peninsula, Wirral. Founded in 1884, they played their first games under the name Belmont F.C.; in 1885, before the start of their second season, they adopted the name Tranmere Rovers. In 1889, Tranmere entered the West Lancashire Football League, West Lancashire League, and progressed through the Combination, the Lancashire Combination and the Central League. English Football League System
The English football league system, also known as the football pyramid, is a series of interconnected leagues for men's association football clubs in England, with five teams from Wales, one from Guernsey, one from Jersey and one from the Isle of Man also competing. The system has a hierarchical format with promotion and relegation between leagues at different levels, allowing even the smallest club the theoretical possibility of ultimately rising to the very top of the system, the Premier League. The English Football League (EFL) is a league of professional association football, football clubs from England and Wales. Player-manager
A player-coach (also playing coach, captain-coach, or player-manager) is a member of a sports team who simultaneously holds both playing and coaching duties. A player-coach may be a head coach or an assistant coach. They may make changes to the squad and also play on the team. Very few current major professional sports teams have head coaches who are also players, though it is common for senior players to take a role in managing more junior athletes. John Aldridge
John William Aldridge (born 18 September 1958) is a former football player and manager. He was a prolific, record-breaking striker best known for his time with English club Liverpool in the late 1980s. His tally of 330 Football League goals is the sixth-highest in the history of English football. During his early career, he worked his way up through the lower leagues, playing in every league from the old Fourth Division to the old First Division. Initially signed as a replacement for Ian Rush, Aldridge spent over two successful seasons at Liverpool, winning the league and FA Cup once, and narrowly missing out on a second league title. Ash Taylor
Ashton John Taylor (born 2 September 1990) is a professional footballer who plays as a defender for club Bradford City. He began his career with Tranmere Rovers, and during his time there had a loan spell at Colwyn Bay. He later played for Scottish club Aberdeen before moving to English club Northampton Town for two years, after which he re-signed for Aberdeen. The Football Association Challenge Cup, more commonly known as the FA Cup, is an annual knockout football competition in men's domestic English football. First played during the 1871–72 season, it is the oldest national football competition in the world. It is organised by and named after The Football Association (The FA). Since 2015, it has been known as The Emirates FA Cup after its headline sponsor. A concurrent women's tournament is also held, the Women's FA Cup. Jimmy Moreton
Jimmy J. Moreton (22 September 1891 – August 1942) was a football player and manager. He joined Tranmere Rovers from Cammell Laird in July 1910. He was switched from right-half to outside right, where he set up countless goals for a succession of Tranmere centre forwards, including Dixie Dean, in almost 500 appearances at the club. Upon retirement, aged 37, Moreton became trainer alongside manager Bert Cooke, before taking over as manager himself, from 1939, during World War II. Harold Bell (22 November 1924 – 17 July 1994) was an English footballer who holds the record for the most consecutive appearances for a British football team.
