''Trancas'' is a studio album by the folk artist John Stewart, former member of The Kingston Trio. It was released in 1984 on Affordable Dreams. This album is produced by Stewart and he also plays all the instruments except for a set of electronic Oberheim DMX drums. The album was reissued on CD in 1988 with two extra tracks recorded in April 1988. John Stewart (musician)
John Coburn Stewart (September 5, 1939 – January 19, 2008) was an American songwriter and singer. He is known for his contributions to the American folk music movement of the 1960s while with the Kingston Trio (1961–1967) and as a popular music songwriter of the Monkees' No. 1 hit "Daydream Believer" and his own No. 5 hit "Gold" during a solo career spanning 40 years that included almost four dozen albums and more than 600 recorded songs. Early life Born in San Diego, Stewart was the son of horse trainer John S. Stewart and spent his childhood and adolescence in Southern California, living mostly in the cities of Pasadena and Claremont. He graduated in 1957 from Pomona Catholic High School, which at the time was a coeducational school. Following graduation from high school, John went on to attend Mt. It catalogs more than three million album entries and 30 million tracks, as well as information on musicians and bands. The Kingston Trio
The Kingston Trio is an American folk and pop music group that helped launch the folk revival of the late 1950s to the late 1960s. The group started as a San Francisco Bay Area nightclub act with an original lineup of Dave Guard, Bob Shane, and Nick Reynolds. It rose to international popularity fueled by unprecedented sales of LP records and helped alter the direction of popular music in the U.S. The Kingston Trio was one of the most prominent groups of the era's folk-pop boom, which they kick-started in 1958 with the release of the Trio's eponymous first album and its hit recording of " Tom Dooley", which became a number one hit and sold over three million copies as a single. The DMX is a programmable digital drum machine manufactured by Oberheim. It was introduced in 1980 at a list price of and remained in the company's product line until the mid-1980s. The Oberheim DMX was the second digital drum machine ever to be sold as a commercial product, following the Linn LM-1 Drum Computer in 1980. Its popularity among musicians of the era contributed to the sound and evolution of 1980s new wave, synthpop and hip hop music. "Rocky Top" is an American country and bluegrass song written by Felice and Boudleaux Bryant in 1967 and first recorded by the Osborne Brothers later that same year. The song, which is a city dweller's lamentation over the loss of a simpler and freer existence in the hills of Tennessee, is one of Tennessee's ten official state songs and has been recorded by dozens of artists from multiple musical genres worldwide since its publication. Felice And Boudleaux Bryant
Felice Bryant (born Matilda Genevieve Scaduto; August 7, 1925 – April 22, 2003) and Diadorius Boudleaux Bryant (; February 13, 1920 – June 25, 1987) were an American husband-and-wife country music and pop songwriting team. They were best known for songs such as "Rocky Top," "We Could" (credited solely to Felice), "Love Hurts" (credited solely to Boudleaux), and numerous hits by the Everly Brothers, including "All I Have to Do Is Dream" (credited solely to Boudleaux), " Bye Bye Love", and " Wake Up Little Susie". Buffy Ford Stewart is an American singer, guitarist, and songwriter. She is best known for her solo work, and her work with John Stewart. Biography Buffy Ford and John Stewart Buffy and John met in 1967 when John left the Kingston Trio and sought a female singing partner. After George Yanuk told John about Buffy, John saw her perform in a musical comedy show at the Festival Theatre in San Anselmo, California. He then offered her the job. Jefferson Airplane was also interested in her as a vocalist, but she chose to work with John. John and Buffy were a part of Robert F. Kennedy's 1968 presidential campaign.
