Tralee-Fenit Greenway
The Tralee-Fenit Greenway is a greenway and rail trail in Ireland, which is due to form part of EuroVelo EV1 and the Great Southern Trail. The 14km route was planned to be completed by 2021, but delayed due to the COVID pandemic, with a rescheduled opening of summer 2022. The first phase of the greenway, comprising 6.5km of the route, was opened in June 2022, this was extended to 11.2km in October 2022. History In 2017, CIÉ agreed to divest the Tralee - Fenit and North Kerry railways to Kerry County Council, in order to facilitate the completion of the Kerry Greenways. Initially planned to open in 2021, the project completion date was updated to 2022 owing to a "planning matter". The planned route required the development of new underpasses. County Kerry ( gle, Contae Chiarraí) is a county in Ireland. It is located in the South-West Region and forms part of the province of Munster. It is named after the Ciarraige who lived in part of the present county. Great Southern Trail
The Great Southern Trail, comprising the Limerick Greenway and North Kerry Greenway, is a greenway (landscape), greenway rail trail under development in County Limerick and County Kerry in Republic of Ireland, Ireland. As of October 2022, of the Limerick Greenway and of the North Kerry Greenway were completed. When fully completed, the route is intended to be long and run from Limerick to Tralee. It is an off-road trail intended for use by cyclists and walkers along the route of the Limerick-Tralee line, formerly operated by the Great Southern and Western Railway, which opened between 1867 and 1880 and was closed in 1977. COVID-19 In Ireland
The COVID-19 pandemic in the Republic of Ireland is part of the worldwide pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). In the Republic of Ireland, it has resulted in 1,687,668 cases and 8,293 deaths. 89.4% of those who died were aged over 65 and 76% had underlying illnesses with a median age of death at 82 years old. During 2020 and 2021, the country had one of the world's lowest excess death rates, which is an overall indicator of the pandemic's impact, at an estimated 12.5 deaths per 100,000 population. The virus reached the country in late February 2020 and cases soon confirmed in all counties. EV1 The Atlantic Coast Route
EuroVelo 1 (EV1), named the ''Atlantic Coast Route'', is a long EuroVelo long-distance cycling route running from North Cape in Norway to Sagres in Portugal. This north-south route runs (mostly) along the coast of the Atlantic Ocean of Western Europe and passes successively through eight countries: Norway, Scotland, Ireland, Wales, England, France, Spain and Portugal. Route In Norway North Cape (EV7, EV11), Tromsø, Vestvågøy, Bodø, Trondheim (EV3), Alesund, Bergen (EV12). Note that since 2008, ferry services no longer operate between Bergen in Norway and the Scottish city of Aberdeen. This can be done by air, however.
