Tralee, New South Wales
Tralee is a planned suburb of Queanbeyan, New South Wales. It lies south of Jerrabomberra and the site once planned for the future city of Environa. It was named after Tralee in Ireland. The residential site, which falls under the flight path of Canberra Airport was strongly opposed by airport authorities. However, despite the concerns, the New South Wales State Planning Minister Kristina Keneally initially approved Queanbeyan City Council's plan for the development of 5000 residential blocks in 2008. In November 2012 the New South Wales Government announced that it had approved the rezoning of the land. Protests have continued by the airport, federal Labor politicians and the ACT Government. Southern Tablelands
The Southern Tablelands is a Regions of New South Wales, geographic area of New South Wales, Australia, located south-west of Sydney and west of the Great Dividing Range. The area is characterised by Plateau, high, flat country which has generally been extensively cleared and used for grazing purposes. The area is easily accessible to the Australian federal capital city of Canberra in the Australian Capital Territory. The area is included with the Southern Highlands (New South Wales), Southern Highlands and parts of the South West Slopes in the district that is known as Capital Country. Geology Of The Australian Capital Territory
The geology of the Australian Capital Territory includes rocks dating from the Ordovician around 480 million years ago, whilst most rocks are from the Silurian. During the Ordovician period the region—along with most of eastern Australia—was part of the ocean floor. The area contains the ''Pittman Formation'' consisting largely of Quartz-rich sandstone, siltstone and shale; the Adaminaby Beds and the Acton Shale. Most of the younger rocks are pyroclastic deposits from explosive volcanic eruptions, but the ''Yarralumla Formation'' is a sedimentary mudstone/siltstone formation that was formed around 425 million years ago. In the 1840s fossils of brachiopods and trilobites from the Silurian period were discovered at Woolshed Creek near Duntroon by the Reverend William Branwhite Clarke. Rhyolite
Rhyolite ( ) is the most silica-rich of volcanic rocks. It is generally glassy or fine-grained (aphanitic) in texture, but may be porphyritic, containing larger mineral crystals (phenocrysts) in an otherwise fine-grained groundmass. The mineral assemblage is predominantly quartz, sanidine, and plagioclase. It is the extrusive equivalent to granite. Rhyolitic magma is extremely viscous, due to its high silica content. This favors explosive eruptions over effusive eruptions, so this type of magma is more often erupted as pyroclastic rock than as lava flows. Rhyodacite
Rhyodacite is a volcanic rock intermediate in composition between dacite and rhyolite. It is the extrusive equivalent of those plutonic rocks that are intermediate in composition between monzogranite and granodiorite. Rhyodacites form from rapid cooling of lava relatively rich in silica and low in alkali metal oxides. Description Under IUGS guidelines, rhyodacites are not formally defined in either the QAPF classification, used to classify igneous rocks by their mineral content, or the TAS classification, used to classify volcanic rocks chemically. Kristina Keneally
Kristina Marie Kerscher Keneally (born 19 December 1968) is an American-born Australian politician who was a Labor Senator for New South Wales from February 2018 until April 2022, when she resigned to unsuccessfully contest the House of Representatives seat of Fowler. Hume, Australian Capital Territory
Hume is a suburb of Canberra in the Jerrabomberra (district), District of Jerrabomberra. The suburb is named after the explorer Hamilton Hume and streets are named after Australian industrialists and businessmen. Hume is a light-industrial suburb and there is no significant housing development.
